New Delhi, To ensure safety of women in the public transport, number of marshals deployed in the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses will be increased to around 13,000.
“From tomorrow (Tuesday), marshals are being deployed in every bus for providing safety to women. These 13,000 marshals will also help sick people and deal with any other emergency situations. Delhi is the only state where marshals are being deployed for the safety of people,” Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said here on Monday.
Addressing newly recruited bus marshals at the Tyagraj Stadium, Kejriwal said he was assigning them with duty to ensure safe ride for women in buses. Make them comfortable in buses, he told marshals.
The announcement has come a day before the rollout of the scheme to provide free ride to women in DTC and cluster buses. The move would help achieve government commitment towards boosting security of women in Delhi, he added.
Recalling his ‘free-ride’ announcement made on the day of Raksha Bandhan, Kejriwal said he had gifted it to his sisters, which would ensure their safety.

New Delhi, Karisma and Kareena Kapoor, Saif and Soha Ali Khan, Kajol and Tanishaa, Shilpa and Shamita Shetty — all of them, actors and siblings who made a mark in recent years. Cut to 2019, a new generation of siblings is raring to go in Bollywood, following in the footsteps of famous brothers or sisters.
The difference is, the new breed is not necessarily foraying Bollywood as film actors. Many of them are not entering Bollywood directly, because getting the perfect launchpad is not always a possibility. Rather, they are first trying to grab public attention by appearing in music videos, magazine covers and ad-films, before testing Bollywood acting waters.
Actress Kriti Sanon’s sister Nupur Sanon has just made her acting debut. Unlike her sister, however, Nupur didn’t choose a Bollywood film but a music video to introduce the audience to her skills.
Nupur featured in B Praak’s new music video, “Filhall”, along with Bollywood star Akshay Kumar.
Beijing, Indian wrestling superstar Ritu Phogat made a successful mixed martial arts (MMA) and ONE Championship debut, putting together a dominant performance en route to a technical knockout victory over South Koreas Nam Hee Kim.
Phogat immediately scored on a takedown in the opening seconds of the bout. She executed another successful takedown moments later, this time keeping Kim on the mat and proceeding to deal damage with ground-and-pound. After securing the mounted crucifix position, Phogat pounded Kim out until the referee intervened.
After her dominant debut victory, Ritu, who hails from the Phogat family known for their excellence in wrestling, thanked them saying: “I want to thank my sisters and my family, they believed in me and motivated me… I want to thank everyone for their support, I promise I’ll always give my one hundred per cent.”
Speaking about the bout afterwards, Ritu said it was always her plan to go for the takedown at the very beginning. “I believed that if I got her down early, I could finish her via ground and pound. The plan worked.”

Vatican City,(Samajweekly) Worshippers gathered in St. Peters Square in the Vatican for the first time after months of being ordered to stay away as part of the Italian government’s measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
On Sunday, Pope Francis delivered the Regina Coeli prayers to the socially-distanced crowd, reports Efe news.
“Dear brothers and sisters, good day. Today the square is open and we can return. And it’s a pleasure,” he said from the window of the papal study.
It was his first service in almost three months.
During the coronavirus lockdown in force in Italy and the Vatican City, he delivered his addresses via livestream.
With tourism in Italy still on hold, only a few dozen people — the majority wearing masks — made it to the square to see the pope.
Security officials managed the crowd to ensure that health and safety protocols were met.
Francis was received with applause.
Francis delivered the Pentecost mass earlier in the morning to a smaller crowd of worshipers in the basilica.
He warned against the emergence of narcissism, victimhood and pessimism during the pandemic.
There have been 12 COVID-19 cases detected in the Vatican City since the outbreak began.

Srinagar, (Samajweekly) Sashastra Seema Bal jawan Anil Nehvle on Monday felt as if he was among his family members at home in Maharashtra even though he was thousands of miles away as he stood guard in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and women from the area walked up to him with rakhis.
The rakhis were a token of their love for all these men in uniform as every day they guard them putting their own lives at risk.
“We have come to celebrate Raksha Bandhan at the last village in Poonch with our brothers guarding the border. Our brothers from far off places are guarding these borders. They are away from their families on this day. We want to be with them today,” said Anuradha Thakur, a local resident said.
Shops were closed due to corona virus lockdown, so the women made the rakhis themselves for the jawnas.
Away from their families it was a moment of joy for the SSB jawans manning posts near the Line of Control.
“I belong to Maharashtra and am on duty in Poonch. The girls in Poonch celebrated Rakhi with us. We got the love of our sisters even while we are away from our families, we are thankful for that,” Anil Nehvle said.
The jawans felt overwhelmed with emotion. There was a sense of appreciation and belonging as they prepared for many more hours of vigil.
4-yr-old miracle boy Mohammed pulled out amid ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ chant

Raigad (Maharashtra), (Samajweekly) Four-year-old Mohammed N. Bangi was pulled out amid cries of joy and applause on Tuesday afternoon from under the rubble of a five-storey building that collapsed a day earlier in Mahad town, police officials said.
Even as desperate teams of NDRF, SDRF, Raigad Police and Mahad fire brigade dug into the rubble to detect and dig out the trapped victims, early on Tuesday morning, the rescuers noticed the movement of a tiny leg between two broken pillars with tonnes of debris dangerously strewn all around, and one NDRF man rushed to pull him out.
Just then, Mohammed responded with a cry, indicating he was alive and apparently well, which was heartening for the rescue teams, said a Raigad Police official at the site.
The teams immediately swung into action and using metal cutters, they managed to slice through the pillars, carefully shifting the debris around using JCBs and finally reached the terrified, crying boy lying beneath.
The NDRF personnel bent to lift him up from the dark hole, and Mohammed emerged into the daylight, bewildered, and blinking his eyes, crying with relief and joy, and wailing for his ‘Ammi’ and ‘Abbu’ (mother and father).
“The ‘Miracle Boy” has been rescued alive. He is God’s child,” said NDRF director-general Satya Narayan Pradhan, after Mohammed’s safe rescue.
Late on Tuesday, the Raigad district authorities confirmed that Mohammed’s mother Nausheen, 30, sisters Ayesha, 7, and Rukaiya, 2, had perished in the tragedy, though details of other family members are not available.
