Lucknow/Kanpur, (Samajweekly) After seven big cats at the Bronx Zoo in New York tested positive for coronavirus, the Lucknow and Kanpur zoo authorities have stepped up measures to protect big cats and other animals from the virus.
The Kanpur zoo, which is home to nine tigers, five lions and more than 20 leopards, five jungle cats and one leopard cat, has drastically reduced human contact with the animals.
Senior zoo veterinary doctor R. K. Singh said, “We have already taken all precautions to save animals from coronavirus. We have reduced human contact to keep the animals safe. We are also keeping watch on the animals with CCTV cameras. Only in case of an emergency, we go close to lions, tigers and leopards.”
All the keepers have been instructed to maintain minimal contact with the animals in both the zoos and the keepers have also been provided protective gear.
The number of staff visiting the zoo on official duty has also been reduced to minimise the risk of man-to-man and man-animal contact. In fact, both the zoos are now working at around 50 per cent of the staff strength.
The zoos have set up isolation cages in case an animal shows any symptom of a contagious disease.
The zoo official said, “At the entry gate of the zoo, the staff is sanitised and their vehicles are also subjected to mist sanitisation. The cages — not animals — are sprayed with disinfectants too.”
All the big cats are being given immuno-modulators in order to improve their immunity, the zoo official said.

New Delhi, Dispelling rumours that animals spread novel coronovirus (COVID-19), former Union Minister and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi on Friday made it clear that animals cannot transmit the infectious disease and many government and private departments were creating panic by disseminating false information.
The Lok Sabha member said that such information is totally “wrong and misleading” and is being spread by some government departments, insurance companies and private companies.
She made the announcement at a time when rumours are spreading faster than the disease itself. The government is also struggling to limit the myths, rumours and unverified news about the virus.
“It has been brought to my notice by hundreds of complaints across India that government departments and insurance companies are creating false panic in the coronavirus by taking out advisories, which is not confirmed with the health department, saying that nobody should go near live animals,” Maneka Gandhi said inside Parliament premises.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said: “The health department of this country has clearly said that animals do not have coronavirus and they cannot transmit coronavirus.”
The MP further appealed that Ministry of Electronics, insurance companies and Ministry of Railways not to bring out fake ads, saying that “do not go near live animals”.

Hyderabad, (Samajweekly) In the biggest single-day spike, Telangana on Wednesday reported 3,018 new Covid-19 cases, taking the state’s tally to 1,11,688.
The death toll also rose to 780 with 10 more people succumbing to the virus during the last 24 hours, officials said.
This is the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic in March that the state has registered over 3,000 new cases in a single day. It came a day after the state saw the biggest jump of 2,579 new Covid cases.
Officials explained that the number of cases increased with the ramping up of tests. During the last 24 hours, the state conducted 61,040 tests, breaking the previous day’s record of 52,933 tests.
According to a media bulletin issued from the office of the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, this has taken the total number of tests done so far to 10,82,094.
Under flak from various quarters for its poor testing, the Telangana government doubled the daily number of tests. During the last four days, over 1.90 lakh tests were conducted.
A total of 16 government and 31 private laboratories are conducting RT-PCR/CBNAAT/TRUENAT types of tests while there are 1,076 rapid antigen test centres. However, the authorities have not been providing breakup of the type of tests conducted.
The samples tested per million population mounted to 29,146 against a daily testing target of 5,600 per day as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) benchmark of 140 per million per day. The results of 1,176 samples were awaited.

Canberra, (Samajweekly) Nearly three billion animals were killed or displaced during the devastating 2019-20 Australian bushfires, according to a new report issued on Tuesday.
The findings meant it was one of “worst wildlife disasters in modern history”, according to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which commissioned the report, the BBC reported.
The mega blazes, which swept across every Australian state, also killing at least 33 people.
Mammals, reptiles, birds and frogs died in the flames or from loss of habitat.
During the peak of the crisis in January, scientists had estimated that 1.25 billion animals had been killed in New South Wales and Victoria alone.
But the new estimate takes in a larger area. About 11.46 million hectares – an area comparable to England – was scorched from last September to this February.
“When you think about nearly three billion native animals being in the path of the fires, it is absolutely huge – it’s a difficult number to comprehend,” the BBC quoted Professor Chris Dickman, who oversaw the project by 10 scientists from Australian universities, as saying.
He said they could not yet state an exact death toll, but noted the chances of animals escaping the blazes and surviving were “probably not that great” due to a lack of food and shelter.
In February, the Australian government identified 113 animal species which needed “urgent help” after the bushfires.
Hyderabad, (Samajweekly) In the biggest ever single day spike in Covid-19 cases in Telangana, 169 people tested positive while four more died due to the dreaded virus on Friday.
Four fatalities took the death toll to 71. Those who died during the last 24 hours include a 59-year-old who was suffering from multiple myeloma. He was admitted and treated in hospital for the past three days.
The other three included a woman. The deceased were aged between 53 and 62 years.
The number of Covid cases continued to soar in the state with 169 new cases from Thursday 5 p.m. to Friday 5 p.m. The biggest single-day jump pushed the state’s tally to 2,425. Officials said the number of active cases stands at 973.
The new cases include 100 local cases, 82 of them reported in Greater Hyderabad.
As many as 64 deportees from Saudi Arabia and 5 migrants also tested positive during the last 24 hours.
This is the third consecutive day that deportees were tested positive. The number of deportees found infected rose to 207.
According to officials, the Central government had airlifted 458 deportees and they were quarantined in government-run centres in the state.
UK employment falls by biggest amount in over a decade

London, (Samajweekly) Employment in the UK fell by the largest amount in over a decade between April and June, official figures revealed on Tuesday.
The number of people in work decreased by 220,000 on the quarter, the BBC quoted the Office for National Statistics (ONS) as saying.
This was the largest quarterly decrease since May to July 2009, the depths of the financial crisis.
According to the ONS, the number of average hours worked continued to fall in April-June, reaching record lows both on the year and on the quarter.
The number of people claiming universal credit – a benefit for those on low pay as well as unemployed people – rose to 2.7 million in July, up by 117 per cent since March.
The youngest workers, oldest workers and those in manual occupations were the worst hit during the pandemic, the ONS added.
The figures do not include the millions of people who are furloughed, those on zero hours contracts but not getting shifts, or people on temporary unpaid leave from a job as they still count as employed.
For this reason the UK unemployment rate was estimated at 3.9 per cent, largely unchanged on the year and the previous quarter.
“The groups of people most affected are younger workers, 24 and under, or older workers and those in more routine or less skilled jobs,” the BBC quoted Jonathan Athow, deputy national statistician at the ONS, as saying.
“This is concerning, as it’s harder for these groups to find a new job or get into a job as easily as other workers.”

Lack of qualified doctors biggest challenge: Arvind Panagariya

New Delhi, Low spending on health and lack of enough qualified doctors are some the biggest challenges to improving healthcare in India, former Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya said on Monday.
Saying that India’s healthcare sector is now more and more private-driven, Panagariya said that the expansion of medical colleges in India has only helped in filling posts in the private sector, while government hospitals in rural areas are finding it tough to hire highly qualified doctors.
In the government setup, doctors are largely getting educated while being on the job, Panagariya, Professor of Indian Political Economy at the Columbia University, said at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum here.
Community health and grassroots level healthcare is prone to a high level of corruption, he said, adding that flagship programmes like Ayushman Bharat have not been as effective as expected.
“If GDP share is increased in health, there are big opportunities for India to improve healthcare,” he said.

Indore, BJP national General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya took cereals in his meal after 20 years on Monday. He said when he was elected Mayor of Indore, a seer had told him about a “pitru dosh”, a kind of ancestral curse, that had affected Indore, hindering its development.
He was advised to propitiate the ancestors by erecting a statue of Lord Hanuman on Pitru Parvat. He took a pledge to install the biggest statue of Lord Hanuman on Pitru Parvat and shun cereals till the work is completed.
Now a 72 feet statue of Lord Hanuman weighing 108 tonnes made of Ashtadhatu (alloy of eight metals) has been installed on the mount in Indore at a cost of Rs 15 crore.
Vijayvargiya marked the occasion by eating cereals in the presence of Mahatmandeshwar Awadheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj, Murari Bapu of Mahamandaleshwar Juna Akhara and Mahamandaleshwar Gurusharananandji Maharaj from Vrindavan.
During these 20 years, Vijayvargiya gave up wheat, maize, jowar, bajra and pulses and would eat only fruits of rajgira, sago and mordhan (all articles consumed during fasting). His wife Asha Vijayvargiya helped him fulfil the pledge.

Bangkok, (Samajweekly) Bangkok’s Chatuchak Weekend Market, the biggest in Thailand, has reopened with strict measures amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Officials of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on Saturday checked the temperature of each incoming shopper and vendor at all gates of the market, which had been temporarily closed to contain the COVID-19 spread over the last two months, reports Xinhua news agency.
All shoppers and vendors were required to wear face masks, wash their hands with sanitizer gel and observe social distancing to protect themselves from possible infection, according to a BMA official.
All food shops and non-alcoholic beverage stalls in the premises of the BMA-run market were required to keep one seat for a customer about 1.5 meters apart from another while public utilities such as seats, toilets and ATMs were to be cleaned up at a two-hours interval, the official said.
However, the weekend market, which used to open until late in the evening, is currently only allowed to operate from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m. for all shoppers and vendors to call it a day and leave well before curfew hours, starting at 10 p.m.
Thailand has so far reported 3,004 COVID-19 cases, with 56 deaths.
Govt may look at fuel taxes, RBI dividend, higher deficit to fund biggest-ever economic package

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) The government will depend heavily on taxes levied on petrol and diesel to finance its biggest-ever Rs 20 lakh crore economic package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday to revive the economy hit hard by Covid-19 pandemic.
Sensing the enormity of the situation and need for a larger economic package, the government On May 5, had raised excise duty on petrol and diesel by unprecedented level of Rs 10 and Rs 13 per litre. This itself will provide additional revenue of about Rs 1,75,000 crore in FY21.
Moreover, the government can further raise duty on the two products by Rs 3-6 per litre, thereby raising another Rs 50,000-60,000 crore. So total earnings for the Centre from petroleum products itself could top Rs 2,25,000 crore in additional revenue besides over Rs 2,15,000 that it already gets in a year as excise revenue from the petroleum sector.
In addition, sources indicated that import duty on a few items may be raised as the government looks strengthening its ‘Make in India’ and ‘Made in India’ initiatives.
The government may look at the RBI for some financial support this year too, like it got through a higher dividend payout last year. In the last fiscal, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved a Rs 1,76,000 crore ($24.8 billion) dividend payment to the government, including Rs 1,48,000 crore for FY20. Similar or more dividend may flow this year too to help the government to finance its economic package.
There is also escape clause under the FRBM (Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management) Act that helps the government to expand its fiscal deficit by 0.5 per cent of GDP in a given year in extreme cases of needs.

Beijing, (Samajweekly) China’s second-biggest airline is set to launch a new carrier despite a severe global downturn in passengers caused by the coronavirus pandemic, a media report said on Monday.
The new Sanya International Airlines will be focused on the island destination of Hainan, home to eight million and a free-trade hub, the BBC report said.
The overnment-backed China Eastern will own a majority 51 per cent share in the new carrie.
Other backers include Shanghai-based Juneyao Airlines and a unit of Trip.com, China’s biggest online travel agency, according to an announcement made to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Sunday.
No timeframe was given for the launch of the new airline, which will need regulatory approval.
The launch plans come during the biggest crisis the airline industry has faced as planes were grounded and strict quarantines put in place to curb the spread of the COVID-19.
A number of high-profile airlines have been struggling to survive during the crisis including Virgin Australia, Thai Airways and Colombia’s Avianca, said the BBC report.
Other airlines have been forced to layoff thousands of workers and downsize operations.
The airline industry could suffer losses of more than $84 billion this year, the International Air Transport Association, warned last week.

New York, (Samajweekly) Its official. Social media and tech giant Facebook is pouring in Rs 43,574 crore for a 9.99 per cent slice in India’s oil-retail-telecoms conglomerate Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) led Jio Platforms – the largest investment for a minority stake by a technology company anywhere in the world and the largest FDI in the Indian tech sector, according to an RIL statement on Wednesday.
“This investment by Facebook values Jio Platforms at Rs 4.62 lakh crore ($65.95 billion) pre-money enterprise value, agreed at a conversion rate of Rs 70 to a US Dollar. Facebook’s investment will translate into a 9.99% equity stake in Jio Platforms on a fully diluted basis,” RIL said.
Facebook, in a statement posted on its website, said the investment “underscores our commitment to India, and our excitement for the dramatic transformation that Jio has spurred in the country.”
RIL chairman and managing director and Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani said “the synergy between Jio and Facebook will help realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s eDigital India’ Mission with its two ambitious goals – eEase of Living’ and eEase of Doing Business’ – for every single category of Indian people without exception.”

The issues of migrant workers who face the biggest challenge to their lives after the lock down was declared in India has suddenly been completely forgotten by the media whose obsession is to convert the crisis into a political opportunity for their masters in Delhi and hence they have started playing to their favorite Hindu Muslim subject with numerous conspiracy theories which even the Chinese and Americans have resisted so far. President Putin spoke to the nation yesterday while his European counterparts have already done that long back but none ‘smelt’ any particular conspiracy theory emerging from Islamic world or Muslims but Manustream media in India is now shamelessly debating the issue as if all other issues related to the crisis have been discussed.
There is little doubt that the entire attitude of Tablighi Jamat has been of irresponsibility and highly dangerous. Their activities have already been found spreading Corona virus in South East Asian countries. I quote from a report published on March 20th from New York Times, whose correspondent Hannah Beech reported from Bangkok about the huge gathering of the Jamaat in Malaysia posing a great threat to public health.
” Three weeks later, participants in the 16,000-strong gathering of the world’s biggest Islamic missionary movement had spread the coronavirus to half a dozen nations, creating the largest known viral vector in Southeast Asia.
UK economy shrinks record 20.4% in April due to lockdown

London, (Samajweekly) The UK’s economy shrank by 20.4 per cent in April, the largest monthly contraction on record, as the UK spent its first full month in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Friday.
The contraction is three times greater than the decline seen during the whole of the 2008 to 2009 economic downturn, the BBC reported.
During the global financial crisis, from the peak in February 2008 to the lowest point of March 2009, a total of 13 months, GDP shrank by 6.9 per cent.
April’s unprecedented contraction is three times that.
The ONS also published figures for the three months from February to April, which showed a decline of 10.4 per cent compared with the previous three-month period.
“April’s fall in GDP is the biggest the UK has ever seen, more than three times larger than last month and almost 10 times larger than the steepest pre-COVID-19 fall,” Jonathan Athow, deputy national statistician for economic statistics at the ONS, told the BBC.
“In April, the economy was around 25 per cent smaller than in February. Virtually all areas of the economy were hit, with pubs, education, health and car sales all giving the biggest contributions to this historic fall.”
Carmakers and housebuilders were particularly badly hit, Athow added.
Responding to the development, Chancellor Rishi Sunak said: “In line with many other economies around the world, coronavirus is having a severe impact on our economy.

Wellington, (Samajweekly) New Zealand recorded a 1.6 per cent drop in its GDP in the first quarter of 2020 amid the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, and was heading towards recession after nearly a decade of economic growth.
New Zealand’s statistics office on Thursday reported the quarterly decline, the biggest drop since a 2.4 per cent decline recorded in March 1991, which coincided with the implementation of a travel ban and lockdown in the country, reports Efe news.
“GDP fell 1.6 per cent in the March 2020 quarter, the largest drop in 29 years, as the initial effects of COVID-19 restrictions impacted on economic activity,” Stats NZ said in a statement.
“This quarter’s GDP results showed a widespread drop in economic activity as travel restrictions took hold and the country moved towards lockdown. COVID-19 effects came on top of the smaller impact from drought in some parts of the country,” it added.
If a further drop in the second quarter, between April and June, which were the toughest months of the epidemic in New Zealand, is confirmed, the country will officially enter recession.
“The biggest impact of the global recession and Alert Level 4 public health restrictions will be seen in the current June quarter,” Finance Minister Grant Robertson said in a statement.
He added that the figure was in line with economist predictions and assured that annual average GDP was up 1.5 per cent from a year ago.

Democracies need inclusive debate on Racism and Caste discrimination
This image may be subject to copyright

Two of the biggest democracies in the world now face the biggest challenges in their political history. Yes, I am speaking about United States and India. One has failed to accommodate the huge Black population victim of the racism in that country while the other has failed to include the Dalits in the decision making as caste hatred and caste related violence and discrimination is on the rise in India. In fact, Indians take their caste identities along with them when they travel to US as well as other countries such as UK, and Canada.
First let us speak about, United States, which claimed to be the ‘greatest’ democracies of the world actually getting exposed with the growing anxiety among its African American or Black people who remained excluded in the large part of the American life. The brutal murder of a black man George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25th, 2020 sparked an unprecedented outrage in the entire United States and it look as if the level of tolerance and patience shown by the huge black population was now over. Over the years, we have seen American police killing youth of the African American origins at will and the discrimination and exclusion was growing. With President Donald Trump openly siding with white supremacists, it was clear that unless the huge black population does not rise in revolt things wont change.

Los Angeles, (Samajweekly) Massive wildfires have continued to wreak havoc across the US state of California, with more than 1 million acres of land set ablaze and tens of thousands residents forced to evacuate.
The latest flare-ups were caused by several thousand lightning strikes in recent days, Xinhua news agency reported.
On Saturday, CalFire, the state’s fire department, said that people should brace for more lightning till Tuesday and make further evacuation plans.
According to local authorities, at least five deaths were linked to the wildfires that are believed to be the “largest ever”.
So far, nearly 14,000 firefighters were battling to contain the blazes.
However, officials warned that their efforts could be hindered by warm, dry weather and more anticipated lightning.
On Saturday, the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for much of the northern half of the state which will come into effect from 5 a.m. Sunday to 11 p.m. Monday.
East of Silicon Valley, the S.C.U. Lightning Complex group of about 20 fires has increased to 339,968 acres and is now the second-largest in California’s history.
It is 10 per cent contained.
The group of fires known as the L.N.U. Lightning Complex in Napa Valley – the third-largest in California history – has burned through 325,128 acres and consumed 845 buildings.

Hyderabad, (Samajweekly) Telangana’s prestigious Kaleshwaram project across Godavari river reached another key milestone on Friday with the water reaching Kondapochamma Sagar reservoir in Siddipet district.
Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao in the presence of Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy amid chanting of Vedic hymns switched on the pumps to inaugurate the reservoir, marking another milestone in the multi-stage Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), described as an engineering marvel and the world’s biggest project of its kind.
With this Godavari water has reached the highest level (618 meters) and 229 km away from Laxmi Barrage at Medigadda, the starting point of KLIS, which is aimed at making Godavari a live river all through the year over a stretch of 274 km.
From Kondapochamma Sagar, which has a capacity of 15 TMC, water will be supplied through gravity to the hitherto arid lands, which had no irrigation water facility till date, officials said.
Before reaching Markuk to inaugurate the reservoir, the chief minister and his wife participated in Chandiyagam at Kondapochamma temple. They performed special pooja, participated in the Purnahuthi and received blessings from the Vedic scholars.
The reservoir has been named after the temple located on the borders of the united Medak, Warangal and Nalgonda districts.A There is Komuravelli Mallikarjuna (Mallanna) temple also in the vicinity. The chief minister named the biggest reservoir under the project as Malanna Sagar.

How a global drug cartel ‘hooked’ an Indian pharma firm for multi-billion narco deal

New Delhi, Lure of easy money readily convinced Indian pharmaceutical Company, Avon Life Sciences, to supply ephedrine, a chemical used for manufacturing drugs, to one of the biggest global drug cartels operating from Kenya, reveals the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in its report filed with the Southern District Court of New York on July 25, 2019. The top management of Avon Life Sciences was ensnared in the multi-billion deal by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s close aide Vicky Goswami, who happens to be the husband of controversial Bollywood heroine Mamta Kulkarni.
The DEA report, filed by US Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman, gives a shocking insight into Goswami’s global drug operations as he supplied mandrax, hashish, cocaine and heroin in quantity of tons, across continents stretching from Australia to Europe and Africa to Americas.
The report says Goswami, son of a former police officer of Gujarat, shifted his base from Dubai to Kenya in 2013. During his stay in Kenya’s Mombassa, Goswami came in contact with the Ibrahim Akasha syndicate, considered to be the biggest drug cartel operating from Africa.
Goswami, who rubbed shoulders with top Bollywood stars, also had links with manufacturers of ephedrine in India. The report says he struck a deal with the Directors of Indian Pharma Co, Avon Life Sciences through two NRIs – Dr Bipin Panchal and Minesh Patel.
During a sting operation, launched by DEA agents (in 2014-16), Goswami and members of Ibrahim Akasha syndicate admitted that they attended a meeting in Mombassa wherein Panchal offered to broker a deal between Akasha and Indian pharma company, Avon Life Sciences. The DEA report says that Panchal assured that he would facilitate supply of ephedrine from Avon.

Without strengthening and involving women in our movements we cant build a strong Bahujan movement as espoused by Jotiba Phule
This image may be subject to copyright
1068 x 393
For any one to understand Joti Ba Phule, it is the pre-essential quality that change begins from home. We speak a lot, lecture others about change and communicate with people in such a language unknown to them or un-understandable to them. Many times, I found, people speak of their ‘knowledge’ and not what the audiences want.
In India, the biggest challenge for those who claim to be intellectuals or in public life, is the vast gap between their ‘public image’ and their personal lives. Not that we want to know about every one’s personal life but the gap in perception and ideological framework is big. When your ideology at public is different than what you practice in person, then, the ideological frame is just an illusion and will collapse anytime.
Why I am saying so because we all remember our great leaders and philosophers, remind other what they did and read out their ‘biographies’ but rarely attempt to learn from their life and mission which is important for all of us. And that way, Jotiba Phule remain the biggest revolutionary of India, an ideal person who not only build up the leadership qualities in his wife Savitri Phule but also encouraged her to take up the leadership.

Canberra, (Samajweekly) Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions have fallen to a 22-year low as a result of Covid-19 restrictions, the government revealed in a new update on Monday.
According to the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory update released by the government, emissions of greenhouse gases in Australia are estimated to be 518 million tonnes in the 2019-20 financial year, reports Xinhua news agency.
It is Australia’s lowest emissions output since 1998.
The biggest fall came between April and June, the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in Australia, when emissions were 10 million tonnes lower than in the same period in 2019.
The biggest drops in emissions were in the transport sector.
Aviation fuel consumption was down 79 per cent and petrol consumption down 26.7 per cent.
Angus Taylor, minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction, said that the unsustainable Covid-19 restrictions on travel “substantially reduced emissions”.
“With the impacts of Covid-19 restrictions being felt across the economy, emissions have reduced as expected,” he said in a statement.
Emissions from electricity fell 4.2 per cent as a result of an increased usage of renewable sources of energy.
Agriculture emissions were down 5.5 per cent largely due to the drought’s impact on livestock populations.

Cadarache (France), (Samajweekly) A ceremony to celebrate the official beginning of plasma-based fusion reactor ITER’s assembly was held in southern France on Tuesday with President Emmanuel Macron saying it is a promise of peace and a particular moment in history.
“There are moments when the nations of the world choose to overcome their differences to meet a particular moment in history. The decision to launch ITER, in the mid-2000s, was one of these moments,” he said in a virtual address to mark the start-of-assembly ceremony.
“ITER is a promise of peace,” he added.
Besides Macron, leaders from the European Union, China, India, Japan, Korea, Russia, and the US declared the start of a new energy era with the official start of the assembly of the world’s largest fusion device at ITER.
The ITER machine, the world’s largest science project, is being assembled to replicate the fusion power of the sun that provides light and warmth and enables life on earth.
The launch of ITER assembly phase is made possible by the arrival of components from all over the world in recent months.
It demonstrates the willingness of the 35 partner countries of the ITER international research project to join together in an enduring way in their common fight against climate change.
“I heartily congratulate the ITER Project,” said Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan.
