New Delhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will next week inaugurate a bridge in northern Ladakh that will ease movement of troops to the border sector of Daulat Beg Oldi, where a 21-day military standoff between India and China had taken place in 2013, sources in the Defence Ministry said here on Thursday. The bridge is located across the Shyok River, a tributary of the Indus, and falls on the fag end of the road connecting Leh, the principal town of Ladakh, with Karakoram Pass on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China. An all-weather road linking Leh with Karakoram Pass, through Tangtse and Chang La Pass, had been completed earlier this year. As per sources, nearly three dozen bridges have been built across snow-fed rivers and streams that fall along this road. Defence officials said Rajnath Singh is scheduled to travel to Leh on October 21 for inauguration of the Shyok bridge. “The alignment of the Leh-Karakoram road was very much there earlier. But other means had to be used for transportation, that is, by helicopters or long-range patrols. Now it will be easier for India to induct, maintain and launch operations from the area,” a retired Army commander told IANS on the condition of anonymity. Troops of the People’s Republic Army (PLA) of China had entered almost 19 kms into Indian territory in April 2013 and set up tents in Raki Nala, near the Daulat Beg Oldi sector. This area is located along the LAC bordering the Xinjiang province of China...

– Prof. M.M. Goel* Being needonomist, I am ready to change my looks, actions and words (LAW) which is the real law of the universe for happiness in present times of covid crisis with material miseries. It is believed by most of the people that a person possessing resources of all kinds including financial and physical is happy. The reality is just opposite. In my considered opinion, a happy person possesses the resources to enjoy happiness and is comfortable with the resources possessed without any grievances and grudges against anyone in the society. It is pertinent to mention that if someone asks me about my retired life from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, I say that I am enjoying romantically with a smile on my face for which I am known to my friends in and out of India. To my mind, happiness is a state of mind which is fully dependent on the ‘sanskars’ imbibed from our forefathers and parents. We can identify many people who really laugh and make people laugh despite of the problems faced due to lack of resources including political poverty and patronage of the politicians. We have to create stronger interdisciplinary partnerships in all walks of life. It is pertinent to mention that consumerism in India through mall culture is polluting the mindset for overspending and living life of miseries. To achieve happiness, the key words are cherish, nourish and flourish and make others happy. We have to be alert, aware and awake with vivek and wisdom. We need to weigh long term benefits over short term gratifications for positive developments in life. To move forward in life, one need to accept self as others as they are also has a sense of purpose...

Congress leader Anand Sharma and Jairam Ramesh started shouting slogans and even yelled over the announcement being made. It was thereafter followed by other members.
