Mumbai, The Netherlands’ King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima inaugurated a first-ever collaborative exhibition titled ‘India & The Netherlands in the Age of Rembrandt’ here on Wednesday, officials said. The two-month long exhibition has been organised jointly with the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, in collaboration with The Netherlands Consulate in Mumbai. The exhibition includes 12 objects on loan from the Rijksmuseum to the CSMVS which has included 10 pieces from its own collection to complement the special initiative which will be on public view till December 16 at its Special Exhibitions Gallery. Nagpur, Amid the demand for appointing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat chairman of the Ram Temple Trust, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) here on Saturday said he should not be its part. VHP national vice-president Champat Rai, also an RSS pracharak, rubbished the talk saying the Sangh chief should not be part of the trust. He, however, didn’t give any reason for it. A senior VHO office-bearer later told IANS, “The top RSS officials don’t believe in being part of any trust. There is no such tradition. Even if someone puts forward a proposal to the RSS chief, he will refuse it”. Mahant Paramhans Maharaj had demanded appointment of Bhagwat as the chairman of the trust and said he could sit on a hunger strike for it. A VHP official, however, said the RSS pracharaks and senior officials believe in carry-forwarding the work of the society only through people of the society. Rail services resume partially

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) Train services partially resumed on Monday as several trains left for their destination according to timetable after an unprecedented break in train movement since March 25. According to ministry officials, more than 1.45 lakh passengers are set to travel on Monday. According to the Railway Ministry, the first train to depart was Mahanagri Express from the Chatrapati Maharaj Shivaji Terminus at 12.10 a.m. for Varanasi. The Railways has announced to partially resume the services of 200 trains from June 1. On Monday morning, Karnawati Express between Ahmedabad and Mumbai Central departed from Ahmedabad at 4.55 a.m.; followed by Bengaluru-Hubli Jan Shatabdi Express from Bengaluru station at 6 a.m. with 82 passengers. According to railways, 160 passengers have booked the ticket for the train, and there will be further boarding at Yesvantpur and Tumukuru stations. The official said that the Bengaluru-Hubli Jan Shatabdi Express was flagged off by contract cleaning staff S.Indra and pointman Vithal Patil. Similarly, the Gomti Express departed from Lucknow station at 6 a.m. The railways has asked the passengers to arrive at the railway stations one and half hours before the departure for thermal screening. The official also said that the protocol of social distancing, sanitisation of hands, wearing of face masks, thermal screening and other laid down protocols were being ensured. Around 26 lakh passengers have booked for Advance Reservation Period (ARP) from June 1 to 30. The railways has already clarified that passengers with confirm or RAC tickets will be allowed to board the train, while those with the waiting tickets would not be allowed to board the train...

Skeletal local train services resume in Mumbai

Mumbai, (Samajweekly) After a gap of over two-and-a-half months, the Railways resumed limited suburban train services in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) on Monday morning, officials said. The local services on the network of Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR) — the city’s lifeline — is specifically for the employees of the Maharashtra government who are engaged in essential services. This follows repeated appeals by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to the Centre for resumption of services as part of the unlocking process post COVID-19 lockdown. Accordingly, the familiar sight and sounds of the suburban trains greeted Mumbaikars since early morning as the CR and WR together started 450 services, according to officials. The WR will run 60 pairs of its 12 car suburban services — total 120 — in both directions between Churchgate and Dahanu Road, according to WR spokesperson Ravindra Bhakar. The CR will run 100 services on either side on its Main line — between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Thane, Kalyan, Karjat and Kasara and 70 services on either side of Harbour line — Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Panvel, said CR spokesperson Shivaji Sutar. “These trains will run between 05.30 hrs to 23.30 hrs”, said a CR-WR joint statement early Monday...
