Ayodhya streets deserted, over 5K visit makeshift Ram temple

Ayodhya, A day after the Supreme Court verdict, the streets of Ayodhya seemed deserted on Saturday with no customers at the few shops that were open, while over 5,000 devotees visited the makeshift Ram temple at the no longer ‘disputed site’. Entry into Ayodhya town remain restricted on Sunday, with police only allowing people to enter after conducting full checking and verifying their identity. Anurag Shukla, owner of a tailoring shop near Hanuman Garhi, said that as all roads remain blocked, people are not coming out due to apprehension. Raghuvar Sharan, the Mahant of Rasik Niwas temple, said: “So much hype was created with the presence of security forces that the people from adjoining areas, who use to visit the temple town on daily basis, are hesitating to come to Ayodhya.”..

Lawyers’ team to present SC verdict copy to Ram Lalla

Ayodhya, Lawyers, who represented Ram Lalla Virajman in the long-drawn battle over the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case, will now present a copy of the Supreme Court verdict to Ram Lalla at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple on November 24. Senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders will accompany the team of lawyers. The lawyers will also be honoured at a function which will be a major celebration in Ayodhya after the court verdict that came on November 9. According to sources, the team of about two dozen senior lawyers including Keshav Parasaran, 93, will first attend the felicitation programme and then visit the makeshift temple at Ram Janmabhoomi where they will present the copy of the Supreme Court verdict to the deity. They will also visit the Hanuman Garhi temple. Ayodhya District Magistrate Anuj Jha said in a statement that the felicitation programme will be held on November 23 at Karsevakpuram. Top VHP leaders including Champat Rai and Dinesh Chandra will be present at the event. Three magistrates have been assigned the duty of overseeing the arrangements for the visit of the team of lawyers...

DRDO lab developes 10,000 face shields for PGI, Chandigarh

WhatsAppFacebookTwitterTelegramEmail Chandigarh, (Samajweekly) The Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) here is developing 10,000 full face protective shields for examining infected COVID-19 patients for the PGI Hospital, an official said on Wednesday. “TBRL is producing 10,000 full face protective shields for the PGI. A total 2,000 face protective shields have been handed over to the PGI and 5,000 will be provided in next 5-6 days,” TBRL Director Manjit Singh said in a statement. TBRL is a lab of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). He said over 700 protective shields were given to the Chandigarh Police on Tuesday. Director General of Police Sanjay Beniwal lauded the TBRL for providing PPE, sanitizers and face shield to the police. He appreciated that the face shields are much useful and able to provide full face protection to the police personnel on duty. The Director said the face shields are single-use as well as multiple-use even its shielding sheet could be replaced easily if required. In addition, the TBRL is also acting as a facilitator for the procurement of bio-suits developed by another DRDO lab for use by healthcare service providers...

Kolkata, (Samajweekly) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday slammed the fake news doing the rounds on social media with a claim that there would be restrictions on the most celebrated festival of Bengalis in the state, Durga Puja, this year. Banerjee spoke about a certain post on social media which said that curfew would be imposed at night from Panchami during Durga Puja owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. It means no one would be allowed to go pandal-hopping at night during the five-day extravaganza. The post was publicly marked as a fake post by West Bengal Police on social media. “A rumour regarding Durga Puja is being spread through WhatsApp. No such decision has been taken. Please do not forward this message. It’s fake. Action is being taken,” WB Police posted on Twitter with the hashtag #FakeNewsAlert. The CM said that some people are spreading fake news that the government has banned Durga Puja. “If you can prove it, I will hold my ears and do 101 sit-ups in public,” she said. Slamming the rumour-mongers, she also asked the police to find out people who purposely spread the fake news and make them hold their ears and do sit-ups. “Fake news is being circulated on social media to disturb communal harmony. Those who have never worshipped Durga, Kali or Hanuman are now talking about puja,” Banerjee said. She further said that no meeting on Durga Puja has been held so far by the state government...
