Harsh Vardhan to meet Maha, Gujarat CMs on corona situation

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday held a meeting with the officials of the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra through video conferencing to take stock of the situation of COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking to the representatives, the minister said that the situation in the states was a matter of concern as at least 36 districts were affected by the COVID-19 disease. “Maharashtra and Gujarat are states in the country which is a matter of worry for us also as 34 out of 36 districts are affected from coronavirus. There are at least 14,541 cases and 583 deaths that have been reported from here,” said the Minister. “I will hold a meeting with the Chief Ministers also to discuss further course of action to control spread of the virus in the state,” said the Minister. He also said that the situation in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Nashik, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Solapur was more worrying and fortunately Gadchiroli and Wardha have remained unaffected. “We have to move towards the direction of making all the districts as green zones where no case would be reported in 21 days. This will be possible for us through proactive approach and strong will power,” the Minister told the representatives. The meeting was also attended by the MoS Health, Ashwani Kumar Choubey. According to the Health Ministry data, Maharashtra and Gujarat are the worst hit states in the country with a total 15,525 and 6,245 cases respectively...

Washington, The US Congress has told the Indian envoy Harsh Vardhan Shringla that despite his “update” on the situation in Kashmir, many people have painted “a much different picture”, and asked him to provide answers to several queries, including how many have been detained under the Public Safety Act, on reports of the use of rubber bullets, and whether journalists and members of the US Congress will be allowed free access to the region. The Congress, in a letter, said that following Shringla’s briefing members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee on October 16 about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, it requested for “more specific information regarding some of the questions raised at that time”. “As was discussed during the meeting, many of our constituents have painted a much different picture of the situation than what you shared with us,” the letter said. They asked if 100 per cent of landline service had been restored inside Jammu and Kashmir and when would all mobile phone services be restored, including for prepaid services. “When will full internet access be restored (not just access at kiosks)?” it asked. “How many people have been detained under the Public Safety Act or other legal provisions since August 5th? Please be as specific as possible. Of those, how many are minors? What is the standard judicial procedure for someone detained under the Public Safety Act?” the letter asked. It asked for the status of the curfew in Kashmir, and what were the government’s plans to allow residents to return to an uninhibited movement...

25 positive cases of coronavirus in India:: Health Minister

New Delhi, There are at least 25 positive cases of COVID-19 in India at present, the Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan informed on Wednesday during a press conference here. “There are at least 28 confirmed cases of the coronavirus that have been reported so far in India. Out of which three patients, who were earlier infected in Kerala, have been cured from the disease,” said the minister. According to the Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, at present at least 9 Indian nationals and 16 foreign nationals are infected with the disease. “There is one patient in Delhi, one in Telangana and six in Agra who have tested positive for COVID-19. The driver of the group of Italian nationals, who were touring in Jaipur, has also tested positive. Apart from these, 16 Italian nationals have tested positive for the disease,” said Harsh Vardhan during the presser. Talking about the potential of the spread of the disease, the minister said that One person in Delhi infected six of his his own family members in Agra. In Italian national’s case the tourist infected his wife also and thus other group members. According to the health minister, the government of Italy has asked the Italian nationals to stay in India only for the time being therefore all of them have been currently quaranitined at ITBP isolation facility in Chhawla...

17,615 Indians tested positive for Covid-19: ICMR

New Delhi, (Samajweekly)The number of total Covid positive cases in India as risen up to 17,615 as per latest data released by the ICMR. The release said “Today, on 19 April 2020, till 9 pm, 27,824 samples have been reported. Of these, 1,135 were positive for SARS-CoV-2.” As per ICMR a “total of 4,01,586 samples from 3,83,985 individuals have been tested as on 19 April 2020, till 9 PM. 17,615 individuals have been confirmed positive among suspected cases and contacts of known.” Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Sunday asserted that doubling rate of Covid-19 cases has increased from three days before imposition of lockdown in March to 9.7 days now. “The rate of growth of new cases has been steadying for a while. As per the data received today by 8 a.m., over the past seven days, the doubling rate is 7.2 days, for the past 14 days it is 6.2, and over past 3 days it stands at 9.7. Before the lockdown, India’s doubling rate was about 3 days,” Harsh Vardhan said. New Delhi, (Samajweekly) Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday launched the country’s first mobile Covid testing lab, which has capability of testing for TB and HIV also. This lab has been readied in 8 days and 50 more such vans are being built, he said. The Minister also said that 62,49,668 tests have been done till date and in past 24 hour, 1,65,412 tests were conducted. He said that there are 953 labs – 699 government and 254 private. “We are testing 3 lakh per day, he said. The country witnessed yet another single-day highest spike of almost 13,000 Covid-19 cases taking the total tally to 3.66 lakh. According to the ministry, 12,881 fresh cases were recorded in the last 24 hours taking the total tally to 3,66,946 cases — the seventh consecutive day showing an increase of over 10,000 cases. With 334 deaths in the last 24 hours, a total of 12,237 people have succumbed to the deadly disease since the first case was reported on January 30, the Health Ministry data said. For the 10th consecutive day, the number of recoveries (194,324) remained higher than the active cases (160,384). The recovery rate has also crossed the 50 per cent mark...

A Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel sought replies from the respondents and listed the matter for April 13 hearing. The petitioner, Hindu Sena, pleaded for directions to the Delhi Police to register an FIR against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MP Asaduddin Owaisi, and party MLAs Waris Pathan from Mumbai and Akbaruddin Owaisi, adding that their speeches had surcharged communal atmosphere in Delhi. Violence had erupted between pro- and anti-CAA groups in northeast Delhi’s Jaffrabad, Maujpur and Gokulpuri areas since Sunday. At least 38 persons were killed and over 200 injured in the violence. The petitioner also sought to be impleaded as a respondent in a plea filed by social activist Harsh Mander who had prayed for the registration of an FIR against three BJP leaders — Anurag Thakur, Kapil Mishra and Parvesh Verma. “Mander’s petition is an attempt to aggravate the situation by seeking criminal action against BJP leaders with the sole intention to defame the Hindus as if the community members are the cause of Delhi riot,” the Hindu Sena said in its application...
