Danve urges Mamata to implement Consumer Protection Act

New Delhi/Kolkata, (Samajweekly) Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution, Raosaheb Patil Danve, has urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to facilitate the implementation of the Consumer Protection Act in the state. Danve said on Sunday that the Consumer Protection Act 2019 would be a vital tool in protecting consumer rights, as it provides for simplifying the consumer dispute adjudication process. He was speaking in a webinar organised by the Press Information Bureau, Kolkata. Danve said that with the passage of the Consumer Protection Act in the Indian Parliament and a notification by the Central government, the Act has come into force from July 20. Now it is the collective responsibility of the Centre and the state to ensure that the Act is enforced in an appropriate manner, he said. Danve urged the West Bengal government and its Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to facilitate the implementation of the Act in the state. Speaking on the occasion, G.C. Rout, an official of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, said that advantages are multi-dimensional for the stakeholders in the value chain with emphasis on the consumers. Mamata govt’s business conclave ropes in 35 countries

Kolkata, Industrialists and officials from India and 35 other countries would take part in the two-day Bengal Business Conclave beginning Wednesday in the sea resort of Digha as the Mamata Banerjee led government in the state is making a desperate bid to rope in big ticket investment which has eluded the West Bengal for years. Dhankhar gets Z catgory security, Trinamool criticises move

Kolkata, The continuing friction between West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee government and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar intensified on Thursday with the Centre deploying the CRPF to provide him ‘Z’ category security cover, a decision the ruling Trinamool Congress called “unprecedented”. A person under the Z category security cover is assigned 22 personnel. The decision apparently stemmed from the situation Dhankhar faced last month at the Jadavpur University where he had gone to “rescue” Union Minister Babul Supriyo who was heckled by a section of students in the campus. Dhankhar was stranded for close to an hour in the campus as the radical Left protesters held a sit-in demonstration and even lay prostrate before his vehicle. It is learnt that following the incident, Raj Bhavan had intimated to the state administration the need to review the Governor’s security. Kolkata, (Samajweekly) Targeting the state assembly polls that is scheduled to be held within a year if not postponed by Covid-19 pandemic, West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress on Friday geared up with its virtual reach out drive to connect with party cadres across the state. Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee is slated to hold a meeting with all her party MLAs, MPs, district presidents and other leaders through video conferencing this evening to prepare the party’s campaign blueprint ahead of the 2021 elections. The high-level meeting was called by Banerjee in the wake of Corona crisis and the subsequent ‘new normal’ that have changed the whole equation of social gathering across the globe. Party sources said that Trinamool chief would chalk out a thorough campaign policy to virtually connect with all the voters across the state ahead of the upcoming polls, as holding meetings, taking out rallies would be strictly prohibited considering the post Covid-19 situation.
