Bike ambulance to cover entire Delhi: CM

ew Delhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said his government plans to expand the bike ambulance services to the entire city as he claimed that the pilot with 16 bikes was successful. To provide the last-mile emergency healthcare services to the people of Delhi living in the narrow lanes, the government launched the bike ambulance service in February. Kejriwal said his government has decided to expand the service to cover all of Delhi. “I am happy that patients living in the narrow lanes are also getting the health facilities through bike ambulances. Soon, this will be expanded to the entire city,” said Kejriwal. The Delhi government had in February this year flagged off 16 bike ambulances on a pilot basis in one district of east Delhi. “The service received an overwhelmingly response from residents. Bus marshals’ number to be raised to 13,000: Kejriwal

New Delhi, To ensure safety of women in the public transport, number of marshals deployed in the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses will be increased to around 13,000. “From tomorrow (Tuesday), marshals are being deployed in every bus for providing safety to women. These 13,000 marshals will also help sick people and deal with any other emergency situations. Delhi is the only state where marshals are being deployed for the safety of people,” Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said here on Monday. Addressing newly recruited bus marshals at the Tyagraj Stadium, Kejriwal said he was assigning them with duty to ensure safe ride for women in buses. Make them comfortable in buses, he told marshals. The announcement has come a day before the rollout of the scheme to provide free ride to women in DTC and cluster buses. The move would help achieve government commitment towards boosting security of women in Delhi, he added. Chandigarh, Terming the AAP’s proposed protest against stubble-burning in the national capital an obvious political stunt with an eye on the upcoming Assembly elections there, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday lashed out at his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal over his “brazen lies on the grave issue of air pollution”. “The air pollution in the capital was directly related to the rampant construction activity, widespread industrialisation and total mismanagement of the city traffic,” he said, hitting out at Kejriwal for “trying desperately to divert public attention from his own government’s failures by indulging in such outright lies”. “By blaming others for his own lapses, Kejriwal was showing signs of his poor leadership.” Describing Kejriwal as a “shameless liar”, Amarinder Singh accused him of resorting to political gimmickry after failing to seriously address the pollution problem in Delhi in the past five years. President promulgates ordinances for agriculture market reforms

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday promulgated the ordinances for major agricultural reforms which aim to give freedom to the farmers to sell their agriculture produce anywhere in the country and pave the way for contract farming. The Union Cabinet had on Wednesday cleared Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion & Facilitation) Ordinance 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance 2020 which were notified on Friday. Apart from these two key reforms, the amendment of essential goods act has also been given approval following which the agriculture commodities like onion, potatoes, oilseed, edible oil and cereals have been removed from the list of essential commodities. After the announcement of the landmark decisions by the Government for reforms in the agricultural sector for raising the income of the farmers as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the President has promulgated the two ordinances with the aim of giving a boost to rural India for farmers engaged in agriculture and allied activities, said the Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in a statement. Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar on Friday wrote to all the Chief Ministers informing them of the Ordinances and solicited their cooperation in implementation of the reforms, said the statement. New Delhi, (Samajweekly) India’s novel Coronavirus tally crossed the 23-lakh mark on Wednesday with detection of 60,963 new cases in the last 24 hours, while 834 more fatalities took the death toll to 46,091, the Health Ministry said. Out of the total 2,329,638 cases, recoveries surged to 1,639,599 as a record 56,110 more patients recovered during the period. The recovery rate is nearly 70 per cent now. The active cases in the country currently total 6,43,948. Notably, the fatality rate, which is the proportion of people who die of the disease among individuals diagnosed, has dropped to about two per cent, the Ministry said. The country had touched the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and added more than 3,00,000 cases in less than five days. The silver lining, however, is that the gap between recoveries and active cases is growing every day. Currently, recoveries are 10 lakh more than the active cases. As many as 7,33,449 samples were tested on Tuesday, taking the total to 2,60,15,297 samples till date, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research. Maharashtra remained the worst-hit state with a total of 5,24,513 cases and 18,050 deaths, followed by Tamil Nadu with 302,815 cases and 5041 deaths. The southern state is followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Chief Ministers and representatives of 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh for a review meeting. He mentioned that almost 80 per cent of the active cases are from the participating 10 states, and if the virus is defeated in these states, the entire country will emerge victorious in the battle against COVID-19...
