Murmu, on Thursday handed over an ex-gratia relief of Rs 20 lakh to the family members of Sarpanch Ajay Bharti, who was killed by terrorists in Anantnag district on Monday. While paying homage to Bharti, Murmu observed that the supreme sacrifice made by him would always be remembered and the perpetrators of the dastardly act would realise their follies and desist from committing crimes against humanity, a statement issued by the government said. “The relief amounting to Rs 20 lakh includes Rs 5 lakh from SRE, Rs 1 lakh as ex-gratia from the government, Rs 4 lakh from Lt Governor Relief Fund, and Rs 10 lakh out of the Panchayat Welfare Fund,” the statement said. 3 rockets hit Baghdad Airport, 4 cars damaged

Baghdad, (Samajweekly) Three Katyusha rockets landed in Baghdad Airport, damaging four vehicles, the Iraqi military said. The attack took place in the evening when the rockets were fired from Abu Gharib area, west of Baghdad’s city center, and landed in the airport, the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) said in a statement on Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported. One of the rockets struck a car park in the airport and caused damage to four civilian cars, the JOC said. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the rocket attack. Baghdad Airport and the Iraqi military bases housing US troops across Iraq, as well as the US embassy in the Green Zone, have been frequently targeted by mortar and rocket attacks. President promulgates ordinances for agriculture market reforms

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday promulgated the ordinances for major agricultural reforms which aim to give freedom to the farmers to sell their agriculture produce anywhere in the country and pave the way for contract farming. The Union Cabinet had on Wednesday cleared Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion & Facilitation) Ordinance 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance 2020 which were notified on Friday. Apart from these two key reforms, the amendment of essential goods act has also been given approval following which the agriculture commodities like onion, potatoes, oilseed, edible oil and cereals have been removed from the list of essential commodities. After the announcement of the landmark decisions by the Government for reforms in the agricultural sector for raising the income of the farmers as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the President has promulgated the two ordinances with the aim of giving a boost to rural India for farmers engaged in agriculture and allied activities, said the Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in a statement. Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar on Friday wrote to all the Chief Ministers informing them of the Ordinances and solicited their cooperation in implementation of the reforms, said the statement. IIT Madras’ programme to skill women in technical profession

Chennai, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) on Saturday launched a “Career Back 2 Women (CB2Women)” initiative through its “Digital Skills Academy” to skill women who aspire to return to a technical profession after a break in their career. Overall, as many as 150 hours of training will be offered to skill the women on their journey back to their careers. Candidates will get a choice to opt for any level as certificates will be issued for each level. The IIT Madras Digital Skills Academy is using latest platforms and has tied-up with the Forensic Intelligence Surveillance and Security Technologies (FISST) to offer this programme, the Institute said in a statement. “All participants will take “Back To Technical Track (BTCUBE)”, which is a 20 hour programme that will bring them up-to-date on technologies and demystifies latest jargons. At the end of this programme, they will have a choice to select a specialisation. There are 4 tracks offered initially,” said C. In terms of age, the trend of increased disease activity among younger individuals has continued for many weeks, with people under 40 years of age accounting for over 62 per cent of cases, said PHAC in a statement on Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported. Among these, males and females aged 20 to 29 years continue to have the highest incidence rates, with 10.7 and 11.4 cases reported per 100,000 people, respectively. Incidence rates for males and females aged 30 to 39 years of age are next highest with 8.4 and 8.0 cases reported per 100,000 people. The coronavirus outbreak settings included food, drink and retail venues that tend to draw in this younger age demographic.
