Congress raises pitch on PMC scam

New Delhi, The Congress has accused the BJP-led NDA government of not giving attention to PMC Bank scam in which three depositors have lost their lives. Party spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh said that Congress is challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce that the depositors of the PMC Bank will be able to withdraw money as per their convenience from tomorrow. The Congress is raising the PMC issue as Maharashtra goes to polls on October 21. The party is trying to capitalise on this issue in Mumbai which has about 36 seats in the state Assembly. The ruling coalition is strong in the suburbs as BJP is pitching its campaign on national issues. The issue of abrogation of Article 370 is BJP’s prime focus. Singh said rating agencies have downgraded India’s rating, more than 600 bank branch has been closed, 100 ATMs have also shut while alleging that “Modi has given more than Rs 6 lakh crore to his corporate friends”. The PMC Bank depositors on Wednesday also met the Mumbai Police Commissioner to apprise him of the situation. The case is to be heard in the Supreme Court on Thursday. Their plea seeks 100 per cent insurance protection to all 15 lakh depositors of the bank...

Suman was said to be one of the closest bureaucrats to Nitish Kumar. The Gujarat cadre senior IAS officer was appointed in Bihar after a special request by the ruling party. He held various top posts in the Bihar government, including that of the principal secretary in the state secretariat. Suman resigned from the post of Commissioner, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on August 3, 2019, after the state government held him responsible for last year’s flood in the capital city that flashed scenes of top ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi marooned by rising waters. “I resigned from the post on August 3 last year, while the flood happened in the city a month later. The state government held me responsible for the choked drainage system leading to the flood,” Suman said. A year after his resignation, Suman attacked Nitish Kumar for the pathetic condition of the PMC. “The officers of the PMC do not have power to take decisions. Hence, no one wants posting in this department,” Suman added. He hinted that he may contest elections against Nitish Kumar in the same way Arvind Kejriwal did against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi in 2014 parliamentary election. PMC bank scam: ED identifies more assets

New Delhi, A day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) revealed that former Union Minister and Nationalist Congress leader (NCP) Praful Patel used private jets of Punjab and Maharashtra (PMC) Bank fraud accused Wadhawans, the agency on Wednesday claimed that it has identified more properties of the promoters and directors of the Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL). A senior ED official told IANS, “The agency has traced 1,770.14 acres of land of the HDIL group in Vijaydurg area in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district. The official said, besides the land, the agency has identified “three hotels of HDIL group in the name of daughter and promoter of the group”. He also said that the agency has identified four flats in the name of wife and children of PMC Bank’s ex-chairman S. Waryam Singh at Jay Prakash Road, four bungalows in Mumbai’s Andheri area. The official said that the financial probe agency will attach the properties and lands of the HDIL group and the properties of the former PMC bank chairman in the coming days under the charges of money laundering. PMC mess: Inputs given on Act amendment: Das

New Delhi, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on Thursday said there is a forensic audit underway in PMC Bank and that it is closely monitoring the situation and has already given inputs for the proposed amendments in the Cooperative Societies Act to the Finance Ministry to strengthen regulatory control over such banks. “We are providing inputs to the government for legislative changes in the Act (Cooperative Societies Act). The government will decide on the final amendment,” Das said after a meeting of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) here. In the FSDC meeting chaired by the Finance Minister, PMC Bank issues were discussed. The FSDC is chaired by the Finance Minister and is a body of financial regulators such as SEBI, IBBI, CCI PFRDA, IRDAI. It met on Thursday where NBFC liquidity, commercial banks’ credit offtake, PMC Bank situation and macro data of the economy were also taken up.Das said RBI is in touch with various investigating agencies on the realisable value of the assets which were securitized by the PMC Bank. The realisable value or actual market values of assets are also being assessed. These assets are spread over various parts of Maharashtra and some in other parts. Agencies have been appointed and the valuation process is going on. We are checking if these assets have been sold to anyone or if there have multiple owners...
