250 lawyers booked over Lahore hospital attack

Lahore, The police has registered two cases against 250 lawyers under various criminal charges for allegedly attacking the Pakistan Institute of Cardiology (PIC) and ransacking the property in Lahore. One FIR was registered on Thursday against 200-250 unidentified lawyers on the complaint of an official of the hospital, while another was registered on the complaint of police in which 15 lawyers were nominated, reports Geo News. Lahore remained under the grip of fear and chaos as angry lawyers attacked the PIC, leaving three patients dead as riots and vandalism began in and outside the facility on Wednesday. Punjab Health Minister Yasmeen Rashid later told the media that the casualties took place after doctors were unable to provide the patients timely treatment during their bid to avert the assault. A group of more than 200 lawyers, who had ongoing issues with the doctors of the PIC, stormed the hospital, vandalised property and damaged dozens of vehicles of visitors. Delhi police’s EOW books Tytler, wife in land grab case

New Delhi, The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police has registered a case against former Union minister and Congress leader Jagdish Tytler and his wife for alleged cheating and criminal breach of trust. Police said the complainant stated that Tytler and 10 other persons had illegally usurped two plots at Delhi’s Karol Bagh area. Additional Commissioner of Delhi Police O.P. Mishra confirmed about the registration of FIR against Tytler and his wife Jennifer Tytler and others in a land grabbing case, to IANS. He said, “FIR no. 0124 was registered this year on July 9. Investigation is going on. We cannot draw any conclusion at this stage just on the basis of the FIR.” The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) registered the FIR on the direction of Patiala House court. The complainant Vijay Sekhari said, “When EOW did not file the FIR even after several complaints, I had to knock at the doors of the court. Then, the EOW officials told the court that the samples of the signatures of the accused have been sent for verification. But the court, after taking note of the facts of the case, asked the EOW to register a case.”..

Jodhpur witnesses repeat of George Floyd incident, with a twist

Jaipur, (Samajweekly) A video has gone viral on social media showing what could be called Jodhpur’s George Floyd moment with a twist, showing cops throwing a person on the ground and pressing his neck with their knees for roaming around without a mask. However, unlike the unfortunate incident in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the cops in Jodhpur reportedly acted after the person, said to be mentally challenged, turned violent after being confronted by the police. George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died after being arrested by the police outside a shop in Minneapolis in the US on May 25. Footage showed a white officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Floyd’s neck for several minutes while he was pinned to the floor. He was pronounced dead later in the hospital, triggering widespread protests across the US. However, in the Jodhpur incident, the man, identifed as Mukesh Kumar Prajapat, did not die but instead started fighting with the policemen. Jodhpur police officers confirmed that the video was shot in the city on Thursday after the police wanted to issue a challan against the man for roaming on the streets without wearing a mask before he started manhandling the police. The video shows a cop pressing his neck with his knee while two other cops held the young man’s legs. A huge crowd gathered when the scuffle broke out. Meanwhile, the SHO of Dev Nagar police station, Somkaran, said that the police were issuing a challan to Prajapat when he attacked them and tore their uniform. An FIR has been lodged against Prajapat on a complaint lodged by the Pratap Nagar police station. He will be produced in the court later in the day. Prajapat is said to be mentally challenged and had damaged his father’s eye earlier for which a case was registered against him, the poice said. Delhi riots: Court grants bail to three PFI members

New Delhi, A Delhi court on Friday granted bail to three Popular Front of India (PFI) members in a riot case, observing that the “offence invoked in the FIR are bailable in nature”. The three were arrested for offences under Section 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. Metropolitan Magistrate Prabh Deep Kaur directed PFI Delhi chief Parvez Ahmed, Secretary Mohammad Iliyas and member Mohammad Danish to be enlarged on bail on furnishing a bond of Rs 30,000. “Investigating Officer (IO) has nowhere mentioned that any of the non-bailable offences has been disclosed or has come out during investigation till now, therefore, accused be enlarged on bail,” the judge observed. The court, however, imposed a rider and directed the accused to cooperate with the IO during the investigation, not leave country without informing the court or tamper with the evidence. The court further pulled up the IO and said, “It is a settled principle that in bailable offences, it is the duty of the IO to offer bail to the accused persons at first instance. There is no explanation by the IO why he has not offered bail to the accused as per constitutional as well as procedural mandate.”..
