Rahul shares Saint Kabir couplet on environment day

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) Emphasising on the wildlife protection, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on the occasion of World Environment Day and birth anniversary of Saint Kabir recited one of his couplets asking “to be prepared and take action now”. “Kal kare so aaj kar, aaj kare so ab, pal me parlay hoyegi, bahuri karoge kab’ (It is important to complete one’s task today itself and not to postpone it indefinitely. What if world was to end in the next moment? Be prepared, take action now),” he tweeted. Kabir was an intellectual saint, who worked towards reforming India through his teachings. These teachings were the basis of knowledge of his Bhakti movement, which was officially called Kabir Panth. Rahul Gandhi also attached a picture from Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala’s Wayanad, where two elephants are seen crossing a road. His remarks came amid the political war over the death of a pregnant elephant caused by eating a pineapple stuffed with fire crackers in Kerala’s Palakkad district. The pregnant elephant had died in the slushy water of the river Velliyar on May 27. Kerala Forest Department team probing the killing of the pregnant elephant is learnt to have taken two persons into custody. 4 injured in Anpara turbine blast in UP

Sonebhadra (Uttar Pradesh), Four assistant engineers suffered serious burn injuries in a blast in the turbine generator unit of 500 MW Anpara D thermal power station in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonebhadra district. The incident happened on Wednesday evening. The four engineers injured in the blast were identified as Arvind Singh, Varun Gautam, Ashok Pal and Jayant Tiwari. They were rushed to a hospital where their condition is said to be stable. The power generation in Anpara D, having installed capacity of 1,000 MW, came to a grinding halt following the blast and the resulting fire. The thermal power station is owned by the Uttar Pradesh Thermal Power Generation Corporation. The sudden outage of 1,000 MW power generation caused a power crisis in eastern Uttar Pradesh district...

Panaji, (Samajweekly) Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik on Thursday said that he was going to join the armed forces, but joined politics after a meeting with socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia. A chance meeting with Lohia at Parliament, Malik said, led to his change in his decision to change careers. “I was going to join the army, but I happened to visit Parliament with my teachers. I saw Lohia in the House. I used to read him. He would inspire me a lot. After the Parliament session we met. He put his hand on my shoulder and asked me what I wanted to become,” Malik said at a media function at Raj Bhavan. The former Jammu and Kashmir Governor said, that he told Lohia that he wanted to join the army, but the Parliamentarian’s words made him switch his decision. “He said the country needs good youngsters. Join politics full time. At that time itself I joined politics,” Malik said on Thursday, which is incidentally Goa Revolution Day. A grand Ram temple will be built. Everyday, I listen to speeches of highly ranked mahants and saints. When they speak about their vision of the temple, they only speak about Ram lalla’s statue and the Ram durbar,” Malik said in his speech at the 2nd Adivasi Students’ Conference held in Ponda town in South Goa district on Thursday, located 35 km from Panaji.This was Malik’s first public speech since he took charge as Goa Governor on November 3. “No one speaks about an idol of Kewat and Shabari. Goa Governor meets PM over Kalasa-Banduri project

Panaji, Three days before the Congress is scheduled to stage a dharna in the national capital over the Union Environment Ministry’s nod to Karnataka’s Kalasa-Banduri water diversion project, Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lobbied for the coastal state’s case in the inter-state dispute over the waters of Mhadei river. A statement issued on Friday by the Goa government’s Information and Publicity department also said that Union Minister for Environment and Forests Prakash Javadekar also gave a telephonic assurance to Malik, assuring the latter of a favourable decision in a couple of days. “Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik called on PM Narendra Modi during his visit to New Delhi and took up the issue of Mhadei water dispute especially the environmental clearance given to Kalasa-Banduri water project of Karnataka by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change,” the official statement issued on Friday said.A “Governor emphasised upon the importance of Mhadei water to the State of Goa, it being the lifeline of the people of Goa.
