Russia’s coronavirus cases near 400,000

Moscow, (Samajweekly) The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Russia rose by 8,952 to the 396,575, the third highest in the world, in the past 24 hours, the anti-coronavirus crisis center said on Saturday. MP records 89 fresh corona cases

Bhopal, (Samajweekly) Neemuch, a town from Green Zone in west Madhya Pradesh reported four coronavirus cases to add to the health authorities’ woes on Wednesday as the state records 89 fresh corona cases in 24 hours taking the total tally to 3,138. In the last 24 hours, nine people have died of coronavirus taking the death toll to 185, a health official said. Four deaths were reported in Bhopal, two in Indore and one each in Khandwa, Mandsaur and Burhanpur, official said. Of total deaths due to the pandemic in the state, Indore, the worst-affected district, accounts for 81. It has also 1,681 confirmed cases with 26 new COVID-19 positive persons found since last night. Since Tuesday night, 34 new patients were detected in Bhopal, followed by four each in Mandsaur, Dewas, Ratlam and Neemuch, three each in Jabalpur and Burhanpur, two in Gwalior and one each in Khandwa , Dhar, Agar Malwa, Shajapur and Shivpuri. Bhopal now has 605 cases, Ujjain 184, Jabalpur 109, Khargone 79, Dhar 76, Raisen 63 and Khandwa 50. Overall, COVID-19 cases have been reported from 35 districts with Neemuch for the first time reporting four virus confirmed cases. Apart from Indore (81) and Bhopal (20), 40 persons died in Ujjain, seven each in Khargone, Khandwa and Dewas, four each in Burhanpur and Mandsaur, three each in Hoshangabad, Raisen and Jabalpur and one each in Dhar, Shajapur, Agar Malwa, Chhindwara, Satna and Ashok Nagar...

Bus marshals’ number to be raised to 13,000: Kejriwal

New Delhi, To ensure safety of women in the public transport, number of marshals deployed in the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses will be increased to around 13,000. “From tomorrow (Tuesday), marshals are being deployed in every bus for providing safety to women. These 13,000 marshals will also help sick people and deal with any other emergency situations. Delhi is the only state where marshals are being deployed for the safety of people,” Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said here on Monday. Addressing newly recruited bus marshals at the Tyagraj Stadium, Kejriwal said he was assigning them with duty to ensure safe ride for women in buses. Make them comfortable in buses, he told marshals. The announcement has come a day before the rollout of the scheme to provide free ride to women in DTC and cluster buses. The move would help achieve government commitment towards boosting security of women in Delhi, he added. Melbourne, (Samajweekly) Australia’s Victoria state, the worst-hit by the coronavirus pandemic, has extended a strict Covid-19 lockdown by another two weeks, as infection numbers had not fallen enough to ease restrictions. Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Sunday that stage 4 restrictions would remain in place until September 28, with only a slight easing until October, reports Xinhua news agency. Andrews said that despite the impact of the lockdowns on Victoria and the state’s economy, modelling had clearly shown that to reopen prematurely would lead to a rapid increase in case numbers. “There is only one option and that is to do this in a series of steady and safe steps. You can’t run out of lockdown. Because all you are doing is running into a third wave and we’ll all be locked up again,” Andrews said. Victoria has been at the centre of Australia’s second wave of Covid-19 infections, recording close to 20,000 of the country’s 26,279 total cases, as well as roughly 90 per cent of deaths, which on Monday topped 800. New Delhi, (Samajweekly) India’s novel Coronavirus tally crossed the 23-lakh mark on Wednesday with detection of 60,963 new cases in the last 24 hours, while 834 more fatalities took the death toll to 46,091, the Health Ministry said. Out of the total 2,329,638 cases, recoveries surged to 1,639,599 as a record 56,110 more patients recovered during the period. The recovery rate is nearly 70 per cent now. The active cases in the country currently total 6,43,948. Notably, the fatality rate, which is the proportion of people who die of the disease among individuals diagnosed, has dropped to about two per cent, the Ministry said. The country had touched the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and added more than 3,00,000 cases in less than five days. The silver lining, however, is that the gap between recoveries and active cases is growing every day. Currently, recoveries are 10 lakh more than the active cases. As many as 7,33,449 samples were tested on Tuesday, taking the total to 2,60,15,297 samples till date, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research. Maharashtra remained the worst-hit state with a total of 5,24,513 cases and 18,050 deaths, followed by Tamil Nadu with 302,815 cases and 5041 deaths. The southern state is followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Chief Ministers and representatives of 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh for a review meeting. Ottawa, (Samajweekly) There have been 131,495 cases of COVID-19 in Canada, including 9,143 deaths, with the trend of increased cases among younger people, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) said. In terms of age, the trend of increased disease activity among younger individuals has continued for many weeks, with people under 40 years of age accounting for over 62 per cent of cases, said PHAC in a statement on Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported. Among these, males and females aged 20 to 29 years continue to have the highest incidence rates, with 10.7 and 11.4 cases reported per 100,000 people, respectively. Incidence rates for males and females aged 30 to 39 years of age are next highest with 8.4 and 8.0 cases reported per 100,000 people. The coronavirus outbreak settings included food, drink and retail venues that tend to draw in this younger age demographic. PHAC also said labs across Canada tested an average of almost 46,000 people daily over the past week, with 0.9 per cent testing positive. Early Sunday, Ontario province confirmed 158 new cases of COVID-19, with the majority of infections reported within the Greater Toronto Area, according to CTV.
