Srinagar, (Samajweekly) Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor, G.C. Murmu, on Thursday handed over an ex-gratia relief of Rs 20 lakh to the family members of Sarpanch Ajay Bharti, who was killed by terrorists in Anantnag district on Monday. While paying homage to Bharti, Murmu observed that the supreme sacrifice made by him would always be remembered and the perpetrators of the dastardly act would realise their follies and desist from committing crimes against humanity, a statement issued by the government said. “The relief amounting to Rs 20 lakh includes Rs 5 lakh from SRE, Rs 1 lakh as ex-gratia from the government, Rs 4 lakh from Lt Governor Relief Fund, and Rs 10 lakh out of the Panchayat Welfare Fund,” the statement said. Ajay Pandita Bharti, a resident of Panchayat Halqa Lukhbawan in Anantnag district, was killed after terrorists shot at him from close range on Monday. The body was taken to Jammu where his final rites were performed. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and parents...

SAD seeks probe into minister-gangster nexus in Punjab

Chandigarh, The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday demanded an inquiry by a central agency or a sitting judge of the high court into the Rs 1,000 crore extortion racket being run by gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpur and his associates under the patronage of Punjab Jails Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa. SAD leaders Bikram Singh Majithia and Daljit Singh Cheema demanded that Randhawa should be booked and arrested for extending patronage to Congressmen who brutally murdered former Akali sarpanch Dalbir Dhilwan, besides investigating the role of Bhagwanpur in the murder and the extortion racket being run by him from the jail. The SAD leaders said a central inquiry by the CBI or the National Investigation Agency (NIA) or even by a sitting judge of the high court could alone expose the minister-gangster-police nexus in the murder of Dhilwan and the extortion racket. Majithia said it had been seven days since Dhilwan was murdered but his killers were still at large. “This is all because of the influence of Sukhjinder Randhawa who is giving shelter to the killers. If the police is serious about arresting the assailants, it should search the residence of the minister as well as his close associates,” Majithia said...

WhatsAppFacebookTwitterTelegramEmailPrint Srinagar, (Samajweekly) A petition has been filed in the J&K High Court seeking a CBI probe into the killing of Ajay Pandita, the Kashmir Sarpanch, killed by terrorists in Anantnag on June 8. The petition filed by a friend of Ajay Pandita says the “victim is a member of the minority Kashmiri Pandit community which has been persecuted in the Valley since 1989 till date. Even after 1989 and early 1990’s, the Jammu and Kashmir police failed to act at that time and due to their inactiveness, no accused was prosecuted for the same.” It says that Ajay Pandita in an interview to a local news channel on December 3, 2019 had said that he was not safe and had expressed threat to his life. The petition mentions that Pandita’s brother has claimed that he had asked for police security but the same was not provided to him by the UT administration. “The applicant petitioner believes that if the investigation is done by the J&K police, then there is fair chance of botched up investigation and tempering with the evidence. There are strong grounds to believe that no trail and conviction has happened in any killings of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990’s exodus. That the applicant petitioner prays that urgent CBI probe along with a judicial inquiry should be ordered by the High Court for securing justice to the victim’s family and the Kashmiri Pandit community,” the petition said...
