Islamabad, Ahead of a verdict in the foreign funding case against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan’s ruling party has raised questions about impartiality of Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd.) Sardar Muhammad Raza. Raza is likely to issue a verdict in the foreign funding case before his retirement on December 6. Over 100 rioters have been arrested, said the police on Wednesday. Around 60 police personnel have sustained injuries in the violent incidents of stone pelting and attacks by rioters that erupted on Tuesday evening. Police had to resort to firing in order to bring the situation under control. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in the city while curfew was clamped in the D.J. Halli and K.G. Halli police station limits. On Tuesday, the two police stations were targets of the violence. City Commissioner of Police Kamal Pant said that 110 rioters have been arrested in connection with the violence. He also tweeted that the nephew of local MLA, accused of circulating an offensive Facebook post, has been arrested. Police officials said that protestors had rained bottles at a police van transporting police personnel to the affected area. Property of the Congress Legislator from Pulakeshi Nagar constituency was attacked and vandalised while several police vehicles were damaged in the violence unleashed by the irate mob on Tuesday...

Srinagar, (Samajweekly) Security forces including para commandos started the ‘first light intervention’ on Sunday to flush out the holed up terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district where a standoff had been going on between the holed up terrorists and the security forces since midnight. “Firing exchanges had stopped around 12 a.m. today and since three army soldiers and two local policemen are also inside the house which the terrorists are using as a fortified bunker, room intervention by the para commandos is being carried out with utmost caution,” a top intelligence officer told IANS. Sources also told IANS that there has been no contact with the security personnel yet who had entered the house to sort out the terrorists without causing any collateral damage to civilian life and property. Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Sunday that stage 4 restrictions would remain in place until September 28, with only a slight easing until October, reports Xinhua news agency. New Delhi, (Samajweekly) A restaurant in Rajouri Garden, which hosted a birthday party flouting social distancing norms and served ‘Hookah to the guests, has been served closure notice by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The closure notice has been served by the health officials of the civic body, which asked to close the restaurant within 48 hours of receiving the notice. As per sources, the restaurant faces sealing and action under the Pandemic Act. The popular eating joint in Rajouri Garden, which reopened after being shut for almost three months, landed in trouble as 38 persons were arrested for celebrating a birthday party there on Monday while allegedly violating all social distancing norms. “While a total of 38 persons were apprehended, four people, including the owner of the restaurant, were found responsible for the offence and hence, were arrested but were released on bail later,” the police had said, adding that ‘hookahs’ were also being served during the party...

Tehran, (Samajweekly) Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the recent US decision to end the sanctions waivers under the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal.
