Chandigarh, Terming the AAP’s proposed protest against stubble-burning in the national capital an obvious political stunt with an eye on the upcoming Assembly elections there, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday lashed out at his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal over his “brazen lies on the grave issue of air pollution”. “The air pollution in the capital was directly related to the rampant construction activity, widespread industrialisation and total mismanagement of the city traffic,” he said, hitting out at Kejriwal for “trying desperately to divert public attention from his own government’s failures by indulging in such outright lies”. “By blaming others for his own lapses, Kejriwal was showing signs of his poor leadership.” Describing Kejriwal as a “shameless liar”, Amarinder Singh accused him of resorting to political gimmickry after failing to seriously address the pollution problem in Delhi in the past five years. Coronavirus: India tally 4,789; downward trend in new cases

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) Tuesday brought some relief for India in terms of new cases of coronavirus reported in the last 24 hours, as after three days, the number of new cases has shown a downward trend. As per the data updated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday evening, the total tally of confirmed coronavirus cases in India so far stood at 4,789, including 4,312 active cases and 124 deaths, while 352 people have recovered and been discharged from hospital, and one individual migrated. People affected by COVID-19 in India include 70 foreign nationals.According to Joint Health Secretary Lav Agarwal, a total of 354 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours on Tuesday. On Monday the highest number of new cases in 24 hours was reported at 693. It was 472 on Sunday.Agarwal, at a press conference, said that strategies adopted by the government to contain coronavirus are yielding good results in many parts of the country, including Agra and Gautam Buddh Nagar (Uttar Pradesh), Pathanamthitta (Kerala), Bhilwara (Rajasthan) and East Delhi.According to Health Ministry data, total cases reported from Maharashtra were 868, Tamil Nadu (621), Delhi (576), Telangana (364), Kerala (327), Uttar Pradesh (305), Rajasthan (288), Andhra Pradesh (266), Madhya Pradesh (229), Karnataka (175), Gujarat (165), Jammu & Kashmir (116), Punjab (91), West Bengal (91), Haryana (90), Odisha (42), Bihar (32), Uttarakhand (31), Assam (26), Chandigarh (18), Chhattisgarh (18), Ladakh (14), Himachal Pradesh(90), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (10), Goa (7), Puducherry (5), Jharkhand (4), Manipur (2), Tripura (1), Mizoram (1), and Arunachal Pradesh (1)...

On days of smog and poor visibility in our cities, we fear the future might already be here,” the President said while speaking at a meeting with IITians and other technical institutes in Rashtrapati Bhavan. “This is that time of the year when the air quality of the national capital as well as of many other cities worsens beyond all norms. We are facing a kind of challenge here that we have never faced before,” he added. The President said that hydrocarbon energy changed the face of the world in the last couple of centuries, but “now it is threatening our very existence”. He added that the challenge is compounded for nations battling to bring substantial sections of populations out of poverty. “Yet, we will have to find alternatives”, he said...

ਸੂਰਜ ਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਘਰਾਂ ਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਆ ਜਾਣਾ- ਯਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਲੈਣਾ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਬਹਿਣਾ। ਦੌੜਨਾ, ਛੂਹਣਾ, ਧੱਕੇ ਦੇ ਸੁੱਟਣਾ ਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਵੀ ਡਿੱਗ ਪੈਣਾ ਫੇਰ…ਖਿੜ ਖਿੜਾ ਕੇ ਹੱਸਣਾ। ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਣਾ- ਪੈਰ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਰੱਖ- ਸਿੱਲ੍ਹੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਨੱਪਣਾ, ਲਿਪਣਾ। ਹੋਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਪਾ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਨਾ। ਜਦੋਂ ਲੱਗਣਾ ਕਿ ‘ਪੱਕ ਏ’ ਤਾਂ- ਹੌਲ਼ੀ ਜਿਹੇ ਪੈਰ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਖਿੱਚ ਲੈਣਾ ਘਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਣਾ….. ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ। ਤੀਲੇ ਤੋੜਨੇ, ਘਰ ਸਜਾਉਣਾ। ਇੱਕ ਝੰਡਾ ਗੱਡ ਦੇਣਾ, ਅਣਜਾਣੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਫਤਿਹ ਦਾ। ਇੱਕ ਤੀਲੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਤਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਮੋਟਰ ਬਣਾਉਣੀ ਤੇ ਆਡ ਵੀ। ਛੋਟੇ ਛੋਟੇ ਖੇਤ ਬਣਾਉਣੇ, ਤੇ ਹਰੇ ਘਾਹ ਦੇ ਤੀਲੇ ਗੱਡ ਕੇ ਫਸਲ ਬੀਜਣੀ। ਸਮਾਂ ਭੁਲ ਜਾਣਾ—- ਤੇ ਫੇਰ ਦੂਰੋਂ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਆਉਣੀ- ‘ਝਾਈ’ ‘ਵਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਮਾਰਦੀ ਏ। ਘਰ ਦਾ ਚੇਤਾ ਆਉਣਾ। ਤੁਰਨ ਲੱਗਿਆਂ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਹਾਰਨਾ। ਤੇ ਫੇਰ ਰੀਝਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਾਏ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ- ਪੈਰ ਮਾਰ ਢਾਹੁਣਾ, ਬੜਾ ਚਾਅ ਆਉਣਾ ਤੇ ਆਖਣਾ- ‘ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗੇ, ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਢਾਵਾਂਗੇ।’ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਰੀਝਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਤਾੜਨਾ ਤੇ ਖਿੜ ਜਾਣਾ- ਘਰ ਢਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਦ, ਬਣਾਉਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਵੱਧ ਆਉਣਾ। ਪਰ… ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ- ਹੁਣ ਕਿੱਧਰੋਂ ‘ਵਾਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ। ਹੁਣ ਘਰ ਢਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਹੀਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ- ਤੇ ‘ਪਿੱਛੇ’ ਮੁੜਨ ਦਾ ਚੇਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ। – ਅਵਤਾਰ..

The district administration has also imposed fines adding up to Rs 13.5 lakh on 300 farmers in the district.
