UP teacher took home Rs 1cr working in 25 schools

May sound impossible but she was a full-time science teacher employed in the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), and was working simultaneously in multiple schools in districts like Ambedkar Nagar, Baghpat, Aligarh, Saharanpur and Prayagraj, among others. The matter came to light when a database of teachers was being created. The digital database of teachers on the Manav Sampada portal required teachers’ personal records, date of joining and promotion. Once the records were uploaded, it was found that Anamika Shukla, with the same personal details, had been listed at 25 schools. Director general of school education, Vijay Kiran Anand, said a probe is under way to ascertain the facts about this teacher who has gone incommunicado. “It is surprising that the teacher, Anamika Shukla, was able to do this despite real-time monitoring of teachers’ attendance in UP primary schools. “How can a teacher mark her presence at several places even when they are supposed to mark their attendance online on the Prerna portal? It needs a thorough probe,” said the official who had first received a complaint about the teacher in March. According to the records in all the schools, Shukla was on the rolls of these schools for over a year. KGBV is a residential school for girls from weaker sections and teachers are appointed on contract. They are paid approximately Rs 30,000 per month. Each block in a district has one Kasturba Gandhi School. Anamika has taken home Rs one crore as salary from these schools over 13 months till February 2020...

Violence erupts in Aligarh Muslim University too

Aligarh, After Jamia Milia in Delhi, violence erupted in the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) late on Sunday night, in protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act. AMU students mounted a violent protest against the police crackdown on students in Jamia Milia in Delhi. Cops used tear gas shells and lathi-charged students to disperse the mob. Additional forces have been rushed in from adjoining districts. Rapid Action Force has also been deployed in the campus. According to reports, a large number of students had collected outside the administrative block late on Sunday evening and pelted stones at the police. The protestors shouted abusive slogans against the police. Efforts to pacify the AMU students by the AMU officials proved futile and the agitationists continued to pelt students. Two policemen alongwith a senior police and several journalists were injured in the violence, according to reports. Senior police officials have reached the AMU and firing was reported from inside the campus...

Khan’s lawyer Irfan Ghazi said, “The Mathura jail administration informed us at 11.00 p.m. that Dr. Kafeel Khan is being released around midnight, he walked out of jail.” The Allahabad High Court had quashed his detention under the National Security Act and ordered his immediate release. Khan was in jail since January after he delivered an allegedly provocative speech at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in December last year. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh, passed the order on a petition filed by Khan’s mother Nuzhat Parveen. The petition argued that Khan was granted bail in February by a competent court and he was supposed to be released on bail. However, he was not released for four days and the NSA was subsequently invoked against him. Hence, his detention was illegal, the petition stated...
