Islamabad, Ahead of a verdict in the foreign funding case against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan’s ruling party has raised questions about impartiality of Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd.) Sardar Muhammad Raza. Raza is likely to issue a verdict in the foreign funding case before his retirement on December 6. Melbourne, (Samajweekly) Australia’s Victoria state, the worst-hit by the coronavirus pandemic, has extended a strict Covid-19 lockdown by another two weeks, as infection numbers had not fallen enough to ease restrictions. Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Sunday that stage 4 restrictions would remain in place until September 28, with only a slight easing until October, reports Xinhua news agency. Andrews said that despite the impact of the lockdowns on Victoria and the state’s economy, modelling had clearly shown that to reopen prematurely would lead to a rapid increase in case numbers. “There is only one option and that is to do this in a series of steady and safe steps. You can’t run out of lockdown. Because all you are doing is running into a third wave and we’ll all be locked up again,” Andrews said. Victoria has been at the centre of Australia’s second wave of Covid-19 infections, recording close to 20,000 of the country’s 26,279 total cases, as well as roughly 90 per cent of deaths, which on Monday topped 800. From early August, Victoria’s capital Melbourne was placed under stage four restrictions including a nightly curfew, with residents only permitted to leave their homes for work and school, exercise, medical reasons or to shop for essentials. (ਸਮਾਜਵੀਕਲੀ) ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ‘ਬਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ’ ਤੇ ‘ਅਸ਼ਟਮ ਬਲਬੀਰਾ’ ਜਿਹੇ ਲਫਜ਼ਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਦੇ ਅੱਠਵੇਂ ਵਾਰਸ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਸਨ। ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼1656 ਈ: ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਏ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਕੌਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਖੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕੀਰਤਪੁਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੋਇਆ। ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਏ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਸਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਾਬਾ ਰਾਮਰਾਇ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਔਰੰਗਜੇਬ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ-ਰਸੂਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਪੰਕਤੀ ‘ਮਿਟੀ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਕੀ ਪੇੜੈ ਪਈ ਕੁਮਿਆਰ’ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ‘ਮਿੱਟੀ ਬੇਈਮਾਨ ਕੀ, ਕਹਿ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਗੱਦੀ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਂਪ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਅੱਠਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਜੋਂ 6 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ, 1661 ਈ: ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਿਆਈ ਆਸੀਨ ਹੋਏ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ 5 ਸਾਲ, 3 ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੀ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਤਾਏ ਧੀਰ ਮੱਲ ਨਾਲ ਸਲਾਹ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੁਝ ਮਸੰਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੰਢਿਆ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਯਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪਰ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਸੀ, ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ। ਇੱਧਰੋਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਦੀ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ਕੋਲ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹਾਂ। ਗੁਰਿਆਈ ਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੱਕ ਹੈ। ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਨੇ ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਵਿਉਂਤਾਂ ਗੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਪਰ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਕਸਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬੀ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੀ। ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਦਖ਼ਲ ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਉਸਨੇ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਨੀਤੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਚੱਲੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਇੱਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਪਧਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਭੇਜਿਆ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤ ਸਮਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ‘ਨਹਿ ਮਲੇਸ਼ ਕੋ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇਹ ਹੈ’ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਤੋਂ ਵਰਜ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਧਮਕੀ ਹੇਠ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਣਾ। ਆਪ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਦਿਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਣਖ਼ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਫ਼ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਇਕ ਸਾਖੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਆਪ ਪਾਲਕੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਵਾਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਿਖਾਇਆ ਇੱਕ ਕੋਹੜੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਕੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਲੇਟ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗਾ।..

Iran condemns US revoke of nuke-related sanctions waivers

Tehran, (Samajweekly) Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the recent US decision to end the sanctions waivers under the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal. The US move to end the remaining sanctions waivers under the landmark deal is a “violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231” which endorses the deal, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi said on Saturday, Xinhua news agency reported. Iran will take necessary legal measures in case the US decision adversely affects Iran’s nuclear rights under the accord, internationally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), said Mousavi. Perpetrators of Delhi riots being shielded: Congress

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) The Congress on Friday attacked the central government on the northeast Delhi riots investigation and alleged that perpetrators of the violence are being shielded. “What is happening in Delhi today, those who were in fact the perpetrators of violence are being protected. We know that some policemen were actually breaking cameras so that those who are perpetrators of violence should be protected,” said former Union minister Kapil Sibal at a press conference. He questioned the police’s conduct of entering Jamia and JNU. “What happened in JNU? All those people who were found perpetrating violence, what happened? No case against them, no case against those who shouted ‘shoot the traitors’ and what happened thereafter?” said Sibal referring to the sloganeering by Union minister Anurag Thakur.
