New Delhi/Kolkata, (Samajweekly) Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution, Raosaheb Patil Danve, has urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to facilitate the implementation of the Consumer Protection Act in the state. Danve said on Sunday that the Consumer Protection Act 2019 would be a vital tool in protecting consumer rights, as it provides for simplifying the consumer dispute adjudication process. He was speaking in a webinar organised by the Press Information Bureau, Kolkata. Danve said that with the passage of the Consumer Protection Act in the Indian Parliament and a notification by the Central government, the Act has come into force from July 20. Now it is the collective responsibility of the Centre and the state to ensure that the Act is enforced in an appropriate manner, he said. Danve urged the West Bengal government and its Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to facilitate the implementation of the Act in the state. Speaking on the occasion, G.C. Rout, an official of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, said that advantages are multi-dimensional for the stakeholders in the value chain with emphasis on the consumers. Datia-Udgwan (Madhya Pradesh), (Samajweekly) While Madhya Pradesh witnessed peaceful arrival of 343 migrant labourers from Nashik to Bhopal on Saturday morning there were violent scenes later in the day in the constituency of Health and home minister Narottam Mishra when the police tried to stop labourers coming from Uttar Pradesh. There was a major traffic jam at the border post of the two states in Johariya village on Shivpuri-Jhansi highway when police stopped people from crossing the borders into Madhya Pradesh. With no solution emerging for more than 12 hours the workers created a volatile situation on the highway by blocking traffic with boulders. With stranded vehicles forming long queues on both sides of the border there was a threat of violence.Collector of Datia Rohit Singh, SP Aman Singh Rathore and other officials reached the spot. Collector and SP of Jhansi also reached from UP side. After long discussion between the officials of the two states, 10 vehicles were given passage from each state and traffic was eases on the highway. There were 4,000 workers in 300 vehicles, migrant laborers started arriving at Jhansi Border near Johariya village from around 10 pm on Friday night from places like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, MP etc. These labourers arrived here from Jhansi by various means to reach Kanpur Dehat, Basti Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad, Orai, Jalaun, Moth etc. The number of these vehicles exceeded about 300. Bhopal, (Samajweekly) Neemuch, a town from Green Zone in west Madhya Pradesh reported four coronavirus cases to add to the health authorities’ woes on Wednesday as the state records 89 fresh corona cases in 24 hours taking the total tally to 3,138. In the last 24 hours, nine people have died of coronavirus taking the death toll to 185, a health official said. Four deaths were reported in Bhopal, two in Indore and one each in Khandwa, Mandsaur and Burhanpur, official said. Of total deaths due to the pandemic in the state, Indore, the worst-affected district, accounts for 81. It has also 1,681 confirmed cases with 26 new COVID-19 positive persons found since last night. Since Tuesday night, 34 new patients were detected in Bhopal, followed by four each in Mandsaur, Dewas, Ratlam and Neemuch, three each in Jabalpur and Burhanpur, two in Gwalior and one each in Khandwa , Dhar, Agar Malwa, Shajapur and Shivpuri. Bhopal now has 605 cases, Ujjain 184, Jabalpur 109, Khargone 79, Dhar 76, Raisen 63 and Khandwa 50.
