Danve urges Mamata to implement Consumer Protection Act

New Delhi/Kolkata, (Samajweekly) Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution, Raosaheb Patil Danve, has urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to facilitate the implementation of the Consumer Protection Act in the state. Danve said on Sunday that the Consumer Protection Act 2019 would be a vital tool in protecting consumer rights, as it provides for simplifying the consumer dispute adjudication process. He was speaking in a webinar organised by the Press Information Bureau, Kolkata. Danve said that with the passage of the Consumer Protection Act in the Indian Parliament and a notification by the Central government, the Act has come into force from July 20. Now it is the collective responsibility of the Centre and the state to ensure that the Act is enforced in an appropriate manner, he said. Danve urged the West Bengal government and its Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to facilitate the implementation of the Act in the state. Speaking on the occasion, G.C. Rout, an official of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, said that advantages are multi-dimensional for the stakeholders in the value chain with emphasis on the consumers. UP-MP Border tense as labour force blocks traffic

Datia-Udgwan (Madhya Pradesh), (Samajweekly) While Madhya Pradesh witnessed peaceful arrival of 343 migrant labourers from Nashik to Bhopal on Saturday morning there were violent scenes later in the day in the constituency of Health and home minister Narottam Mishra when the police tried to stop labourers coming from Uttar Pradesh. There was a major traffic jam at the border post of the two states in Johariya village on Shivpuri-Jhansi highway when police stopped people from crossing the borders into Madhya Pradesh. With no solution emerging for more than 12 hours the workers created a volatile situation on the highway by blocking traffic with boulders. With stranded vehicles forming long queues on both sides of the border there was a threat of violence.Collector of Datia Rohit Singh, SP Aman Singh Rathore and other officials reached the spot. Collector and SP of Jhansi also reached from UP side. After long discussion between the officials of the two states, 10 vehicles were given passage from each state and traffic was eases on the highway. There were 4,000 workers in 300 vehicles, migrant laborers started arriving at Jhansi Border near Johariya village from around 10 pm on Friday night from places like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, MP etc. These labourers arrived here from Jhansi by various means to reach Kanpur Dehat, Basti Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad, Orai, Jalaun, Moth etc. The number of these vehicles exceeded about 300. There were about 4,000 workers among them. After stopping them, when these people did not listen to them, they created a ruckus by creating a ruckus. Chinese Navy’s forays spike amid Covid-19 pandemic

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) China, the first country to be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, has started pushing its People’s Liberation Army Navy’s activities in South China Sea as well as the Indian Ocean Region to gain dominance in the areas, sources said on Saturday. The 35th Chinese Anti-Piracy Escort Force (APEF) has recently replaced the 34th APEF deployed in the Gulf of Aden. “Because of it, around seven People’s Liberation Army Navy ships are in the Indian Ocean Region,” said the sources. The sources also found that China is operating 4 to 5 research vessels in the Indian Ocean Region at present. A senior government official said that even though China was the first country to be affected by the coronavirus pandemic, which originated in Wuhan, it seems to have had no major effect on the PLA-Navy’s activities. “Additionally, a large number of PLA-Navy/Coast Guard assets, maritime militia and survey ships are deployed in the contested waters of the South China Sea,” said the official. London, (Samajweekly) Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to say that if no agreement on trade between the EU and UK can be reached by October 15 both sides should “accept that and move on”. Johnson will say completing the UK’s exit from the EU without a trade deal would still be a “good outcome”, the BBC reported. It comes after UK chief negotiator David Frost said the UK is not “scared” of walking away. Another round of talks – the eighth – is due to begin on Tuesday. But on the eve of the negotiations, the Financial Times reported that the UK is planning new legislation that will override key parts of the Brexit withdrawal agreement made last year. The new bill would eliminate the legal force of arrangements over customs in Northern Ireland which had been designed to avoid a hard border with the Irish Republic. It would also override provisions on state aid – the financial assistance sometimes given by the government to companies. Government sources told the BBC that the legislation would be introduced this week, describing it as a “sensible fall-back option” in case negoiations break down. They said it was “not intended to derail the talks”, but a key EU diplomat told the BBC it was “a self-defeating strategy” that could lead to the trade talks unravelling altogether...
