Serious diplomatic lapse in relationship with Nepal: Karan Singh

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) Congress leader and former Maharaja of Kashmir, Karan Singh, has slammed the government for mishandling the India-Nepal ties over Nepal passing a resolution in its House of Representatives to adopt a new map which includes Indian territory. Karan Singh termed the fiasco as “Prima facie this appears to be a serious diplomatic lapse, the consequences of which are before us”. Karan Singh said that the matter was raised in November last year but “surprisingly it was not taken seriously, ideally the Nepal government should have been engaged through Foreign Secretary or Foreign Minister level, and if needed the Prime Minister should have pitched in to resolve the deadlock”. The Congress leader also criticised Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli for the “irreversible confrontational posture “with its relationship with India. Karan Singh said that he has been associated with Nepal politically and personally for several decades and he has deep regrets for what Prime Minister Oli has done with regards to ties with India. Nepal’s House of Representatives on June 13 unanimously adopted the Constitution Amendment Bill, paving the way for accommodating the updated political-administrative map in the national emblem which includes Indian areas of Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura. Nepal Foreign Minister, Pradeep Gyawali, said in a tweet, “The House of Representatives unanimously adopted the Constitution Amendment Bill, paving the way for accommodating the updated political-administrative map in the national emblem.”..

Kerala IT takes a beating, faces Rs 4,500 cr loss in Q1

WhatsAppFacebookTwitterTelegramEmailPrint Thiruvananthapuram, (Samajweekly) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said that the IT sector in the state has lost revenues to the tune of Rs 4,500 crore in the first quarter of the present fiscal, on account of the Covid pandemic. He also pointed out studies conducted by the State Planning Board have now estimated a loss of jobs, to the extent of 26,000 direct jobs and 80,000 indirect jobs. “To provide an impetus to the IT sector, what we have decided is to give a relaxation of rent for three months to companies operating from state-run IT parks and the companies can decide on which three months they would like in the present fiscal. Moreover, we expect to provide that in the next fiscal, there will be no normal annual escalation in rent,” Vijayan said. As on date, the total IT software exports from Kerala is pegged at around Rs 20,000 crore from the three parks here, and at Kochi, and Kozhikode besides small other IT firms and start-ups across the state. The total direct employment is around 1.10 lakh. Vijayan also pointed out that he has assured the IT industry that if there are any outstanding payments from the state government to companies, they will be cleared at the earliest and the government will take up with banks on how best they can come to the help of such companies which require any working capital needs. “Today the situation is that it is work from home for most IT companies. We have also suggested that there should be a new model ‘work near home’ units that has to be started. A ‘work sharing bench’ also should begin and any IT company or even the government, if they need extra hands, should take from this work sharing bench. IT companies, when they get new projects, should first fill up vacancies from this bench and then only look for fresh appointments,” added Vijayan...

Now, Haryana to run special buses from Delhi

Chandigarh, (Samajweekly) In a major relief to those stranded in the national capital owing to the imposition of nationwide lockdown, the Haryana government has now decided to run special buses from May 18, an official said on Friday. For this online ticket booking is a must. Also the buses will take the passengers from the state to the railway station in New Delhi. From Friday, the state started special intrastate roadways bus services on selected routes. Haryana Transport Minister Moolchand Sharma said the government has decided to ply state transport buses between the state and New Delhi for the convenience of people. Online booking can be done through the portal hartrans.gov.in and the passengers with confirmed booking will be allowed to enter the bus stand. Sharma said the buses would operate from the railway station in New Delhi to the scheduled bus stand of Haryana Roadways and no passenger will be allowed to board or get off from the bus en route. Buses passing through coronavirus-affected districts will take the bypass or flyover route. He said taking special care of social distancing norms only 30 passengers will be accommodated in a bus. Thermal screening of passengers will be done before entering the bus stands and it will be necessary for every passenger to wear a mask and follow social distancing norms. Passengers without masks will not be allowed to enter the bus...
