Foreign funding case: PTI shows no trust in Pak EC chief

Islamabad, Ahead of a verdict in the foreign funding case against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan’s ruling party has raised questions about impartiality of Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd.) Sardar Muhammad Raza. Raza is likely to issue a verdict in the foreign funding case before his retirement on December 6. Prime Minister Imran Khan presided over the PTI’s core committee meeting on Sunday and reiterated the party’s demand that Election Commission hear cases of all three major political parties – PTI, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), simultaneously and refrain from singling out PTI. “The ECP should follow rules, give equal opportunities to all the parties and conduct across-the-board accountability,” Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan told reporters after the core committee’s meeting. Yes Bank posts staggering Q3 standalone net loss of Rs 18,560 cr

Mumbai, Financially troubled Yes Bank on Saturday reported a standalone net loss of Rs 18,560.31 crore for the third quarter of the financial year 2019-20. This is amongst the biggest losses reported by the India Inc. At present, the private lender is under a moratorium and is controlled by the office of the administrator appointed by the RBI. The bank had reported a net profit of Rs 1,001.85 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Besides, the bank’s total income fell to Rs 6,268.50 crore from Rs 8,849.81 crore earned during the October-December quarter of the previous fiscal. On consolidated basis, Yes Bank reported a net loss of Rs 18,564.24 crore for the December quarter from a net profit of Rs 1,000.57 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. The independent auditor’s review report on the consolidated results pointed out that there is a “material uncertainty related to going concern” of the bank. “The said assumption of going concern is dependent upon the degree of success of the final reconstruction scheme, the quantum of capital infused into the bank and the bank’s ability to stabalise its deposit balances post withdrawal of the moratorium by the RBI. Our conclusion is not modified in respect of this matter,” the auditor said...

Srinagar, (Samajweekly) If Srinagar Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu, survives the no confidence motion brought against him by his opponents, Mattu would get a second lease of life as the city’s top elected functionary. Mattu had survived a no confidence motion against him on December 26, 2019. Srinagar municipal corporation has 74 members, out of which 27 belong to the BJP and the rest are Independents and those belonging to the National Conference and the Congress. BJP spokesman has confirmed that the party supports the motion against the Mayor indirectly, but the National Conference Vice-President and former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has made it clear that his party has no intention of going along with the BJP. Mattu has asserted that the Congress is also not going to support the no confidence motion against him. The no confidence motion has been filed by former Deputy Mayor, Sheikh Imran, who is an Independent member of the corporation. “We will fight this democratically and legally as this is yet another litmus test for the mainstream. This is the second such attempt in six months and we are certain of proving our majority and defeating this blatantly illegal, undemocratic manoeuvring,” Mattu posted in Twitter.
