New Delhi, The BJP, which is six short of majority in Haryana, got a shot in the arm on Friday as tainted MLA Gopal Kanda and seven other Independents extended their support to Manohar Lal Khatar to form a BJP government in the state. Reports suggest that Manohar Lal Khattar may stake claim to form government on Friday evening itself, armed with support from Independent. Apart from former Minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, who also served under Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s Congress government, Dharmapala Gondan, Nayanpal Rawat, Somveer Sangwan, Rakesh Daulatabad, Randhir Goundal, Balraj Kundu and Ranjit Chautala also extended their support for the BJP government. Late on Thursday, 53-year-old Kanda flew to Delhi in a chartered flight for a meeting with the top BJP leadership. Bhopal, (Samajweekly) The Congress seems content with the sole Rajya Sabha seat that it will bag through Saturday’s poll. It has asked its legislators to commit 54 of their first preference votes to Digivjaya Singh and thus sacrifice Phool Singh Baraiya, the second candidate. Digvijaya Singh is seeking a re-entry to the Upper House. He needs 52 MLAs’ support. The Congress has 92 MLAs. The Congress was once well-placed to send two of the three candidates to the Upper House. It will now watch its former star Jyotiraditya Scindia win as a BJP candidate along with a rank outsider Sumer Singh Solanki. The BJP hopes to make a political capital from the easy passage of Digvijaya Singh. Phool Siingh Baraiya, the second candidate of Congress, might secure 38 of the 40 Congress votes and might end up as a loser. Baraiya is a popular Daalit leader from the Chambal-Gwalior region. With two additional votes committed to Digvijay Singh, Baraiya would need 14 additional votes and hope for some votes being rejected. After Scindia’s rebellion, Baraiya was nominated to influence the 16 seats that will witness by-elections in the Chambal-Gwalior region. The BJP will now turn it into a campaign issue saying the Congress propped up an upper caste candidate at the expense of a Dalit leader...

Defamation case against Digvijay Singh for ISI remark

New Delhi, A defamation complaint was filed against former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh by Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) legal cell for his alleged remark that the BJP and Bajrang Dal were taking money from Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The complaint was filed before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal who listed the matter for consideration on October 9. The plea was filed by BJP Legal Cell convener Rajesh Kumar. The petitioner stated that the senior Congress leader has committed a “grave offence” causing injury to the BJP, its leaders and the public at large by his defamatory statements. “The language used in the statement is highly unethical, wherein the accused had caused mockery of the whole system. The statement that BJP is taking money from ISI naturally creates wrong impression in the minds of the general public as ISI is a spy agency of Pakistan, which is held to be inimical to India and who has established links with the several terror attacks in India. The comment of the accused has been made in categorical terms to defame the BJP party,” the plea said...

Chandigarh, Is Dushyant the rising force in Haryana among the politically diminished Chautala clan of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lals state party Indian National Lok Dal (INLD)? It seems so if one goes by several opinion polls that predict the ruling BJP will return to power with a brute majority by winning 75 out of 90 seats with a vote share of 42.4 per cent against 26 per cent of the Congress. The less than a year old Dushyant-led Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), an INLD defector, is predicted to get seven seats with a vote share of 19 per cent, while the INLD is a bigger casualty of BJP’s meteoric rise. Analysts believe the JJP’s rise from the ashes is noticeable as its vote share with its alliance partner AAP in this year’s Lok Sabha polls was 4.53 per cent.
