Stand With JNU

Why is there so much of hatred towards JNU in India’s rich urban savarna class and the root lies in that whatever me the fault line inside JNU and I have said it many time that caste supremacy of the elite remain intact in the JNU, yet it has also provided space to a huge number of groups which would not have got it in any other university. In the last few years, organisations like Birsa Ambedkar Phule Student Association ( BAPSA) has emerged a powerful tool to mobilise the students from the marginalised sections and they have challenged the main power groups. There are other groups too. Ofcourse, it remain the only place where the left student unions still holds their impressive influence over the students and the reason is the huge diversity and representation of wider sections in JNU, a unique point of the University. But this uniqueness is under the challenge now. As JNU provided these spaces and now a large number of the scholars from deprived sections are emerging and challenging the popular narrative and questioning the authorities as well as building alternative narratives and ideas, the dominant forces remain afraid of these new emerging ideas. Basically, it is not a war on JNU but frankly war on India’s Dalit Bahujan classes and their scholars to ensure quality education remain out of their reach...

Perpetrators of Delhi riots being shielded: Congress

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) The Congress on Friday attacked the central government on the northeast Delhi riots investigation and alleged that perpetrators of the violence are being shielded. “What is happening in Delhi today, those who were in fact the perpetrators of violence are being protected. We know that some policemen were actually breaking cameras so that those who are perpetrators of violence should be protected,” said former Union minister Kapil Sibal at a press conference. He questioned the police’s conduct of entering Jamia and JNU. “What happened in JNU? All those people who were found perpetrating violence, what happened? No case against them, no case against those who shouted ‘shoot the traitors’ and what happened thereafter?” said Sibal referring to the sloganeering by Union minister Anurag Thakur. Sibal accused the police of slapping false charges on activists and claimed that “young people and innocent children, people who are in the university system, are being called to police stations and are intimidated and framed under UAPA if they did not fall in line or act as per police diktat.” “I am getting information and I also have access to a lot of information. New Delhi, The protest on Monday by students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), against the draft hostel manual and a proposed fee hike by the administration, also made the media its target. While the road leading to the campus was blocked for hours since the morning, three female journalists were reportedly manhandled by the protesting students. JNU protesters charge administration with ‘damaging campus’

New Delhi, Agitating Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students, who allegedly vandalised the varsity’s administration block, charged the “administration and their cronies” with the illegal act and said that their fight is against fee hike and the “authoritarian ways” of administrative functioning. “Students with their future at stake due to the fee hike can never be perpetuators of any violence or undemocratic action. The acts of miscreants are a conspiracy to defame the university and it’s democratic culture by the right wing forces,” said JNUSU President Aishe Gosh in a statement. The students have also occupied the block that houses offices of the top brass of the university’s administration, including Vice Chancellor, apart from allegedly vandalising Swami Vivekananda bust. However, Vice Chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said that the university has identified the students who vandalised the administration block and is preparing to file an FIR against them.
