Service chiefs call on Rajnath to review border security

New Delhi, The three service chiefs of India’s armed forces called on Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday for a meeting to review the prevalent security scenario along the country’s borders, with particular focus on the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan. The meeting came in the backdrop of Pakistan’s continuous offensive along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir through ceasefire violations ever since India abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution which granted special status to the state on August 5. “Particular focus was given on the threat posed by Pakistan along the LoC with India. The Defence Minister reviewed the prevailing security situation along India’s borders with its neighbouring countries in his meeting with the three service chiefs. Security situation along the entire international border of India was discussed during the course of the meeting,” sources told IANS. As per sources, the three service chiefs — Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria and Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh — were asked by Rajnath to maintain continuous alert and vigil along the borders...

Pak violates ceasefire in J&K’s Tangdhar sector

Srinagar, (Samajweekly) Pakistan resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation at the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Tangdhar sector on Tuesday drawing a strong response from India, officials said. “On 16 June 2020, in the early morning hours, Pakistan initiated an Unprovoked Ceasefire Violation (CFV) along the LoC in Tangdhar Sector by firing mortars and other weapons. Befitting response was given.” Army said in a brief statement. Pakistan has been targeting defence positions and civilian areas near the LoC. Over the last few days there have been a series of ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC in Uri and Tanghdhar sectors in Kashmir and to the South of Pir Panjal in Jammu’s Rajouri and Poonch. One ultra killed as Army foils infiltration bid on J&K LoC

Jammu, (Samajweekly) A terrorist was killed and two others injured as the Army foiled their infiltration bid on Sunday from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Devender Anand said: “A group of terrorists attempted to infiltrate in the Krishna Ghati Sector but alert Indian troops detected them close to the LoC and engaged them, resulting in the killing of one terrorist and serious injuries to two others. “Subsequent search in the area showed that the terrorist’s body had been dragged away from the site.” One AK-47 assault rifle, two AK-47 magazines, and some eatables were seized from the spot. “Pakistan markings on the eatables and a few other items clearly indicate the complicity of Pakistan in sponsoring terror activists in J&K,” the spokesman said. He said that security forces are maintaining a robust counter-infiltration grid along the LoC to foil any nefarious design of Pakistan.
