Danve urges Mamata to implement Consumer Protection Act

New Delhi/Kolkata, (Samajweekly) Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution, Raosaheb Patil Danve, has urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to facilitate the implementation of the Consumer Protection Act in the state. Danve said on Sunday that the Consumer Protection Act 2019 would be a vital tool in protecting consumer rights, as it provides for simplifying the consumer dispute adjudication process. He was speaking in a webinar organised by the Press Information Bureau, Kolkata. Danve said that with the passage of the Consumer Protection Act in the Indian Parliament and a notification by the Central government, the Act has come into force from July 20. Now it is the collective responsibility of the Centre and the state to ensure that the Act is enforced in an appropriate manner, he said. Danve urged the West Bengal government and its Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to facilitate the implementation of the Act in the state. Speaking on the occasion, G.C. Rout, an official of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, said that advantages are multi-dimensional for the stakeholders in the value chain with emphasis on the consumers. Datia-Udgwan (Madhya Pradesh), (Samajweekly) While Madhya Pradesh witnessed peaceful arrival of 343 migrant labourers from Nashik to Bhopal on Saturday morning there were violent scenes later in the day in the constituency of Health and home minister Narottam Mishra when the police tried to stop labourers coming from Uttar Pradesh. There was a major traffic jam at the border post of the two states in Johariya village on Shivpuri-Jhansi highway when police stopped people from crossing the borders into Madhya Pradesh. With no solution emerging for more than 12 hours the workers created a volatile situation on the highway by blocking traffic with boulders. With stranded vehicles forming long queues on both sides of the border there was a threat of violence.Collector of Datia Rohit Singh, SP Aman Singh Rathore and other officials reached the spot. Collector and SP of Jhansi also reached from UP side. After long discussion between the officials of the two states, 10 vehicles were given passage from each state and traffic was eases on the highway. There were 4,000 workers in 300 vehicles, migrant laborers started arriving at Jhansi Border near Johariya village from around 10 pm on Friday night from places like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, MP etc. These labourers arrived here from Jhansi by various means to reach Kanpur Dehat, Basti Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad, Orai, Jalaun, Moth etc. The number of these vehicles exceeded about 300. Johnson sets Oct 15 deadline for EU trade deal

London, (Samajweekly) Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to say that if no agreement on trade between the EU and UK can be reached by October 15 both sides should “accept that and move on”. Johnson will say completing the UK’s exit from the EU without a trade deal would still be a “good outcome”, the BBC reported. It comes after UK chief negotiator David Frost said the UK is not “scared” of walking away. Another round of talks – the eighth – is due to begin on Tuesday. But on the eve of the negotiations, the Financial Times reported that the UK is planning new legislation that will override key parts of the Brexit withdrawal agreement made last year. The new bill would eliminate the legal force of arrangements over customs in Northern Ireland which had been designed to avoid a hard border with the Irish Republic. It would also override provisions on state aid – the financial assistance sometimes given by the government to companies. Government sources told the BBC that the legislation would be introduced this week, describing it as a “sensible fall-back option” in case negoiations break down. Indian Army in a statement said that during the de-escalation process which is underway in the Galwan Valley, a violent face-off took place on Monday night with casualties. “The loss of lives on the Indian side includes an officer and two soldiers,” Indian Army said. The force further stated that senior military officials of both the countries are currently meeting at the face-off site to defuse the situation. On Monday, Brigade Commander and company level talks happened in Eastern Ladakh between India and China. The talks are happening near patrolling point 14, near the mouth of Galwan Valley and patrolling point 17 at Hot Spring Area. On June 13, Indian Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane had assured that the entire situation along the borders with China is under control and the process of disengagement has started.
