Srinagar, A day before Ladakh becomes a new Union Territory and its first Lt Governor R.K. Mathur takes oath, the Centre on Wednesday named its police chief. S.S. Khandare, a 1995 batch officer Indian Police Service officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, has been appointed the head of police of Ladakh UT with effect from October 31, “until further orders”, a Home Ministry statement said. Khandare is presently an Inspector General of Police in Jammu and Kashmir. The Centre also named IAS officer Umang Narula as an Advisor to the Lt Governor of Ladakh. Bus marshals’ number to be raised to 13,000: Kejriwal

New Delhi, To ensure safety of women in the public transport, number of marshals deployed in the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses will be increased to around 13,000. “From tomorrow (Tuesday), marshals are being deployed in every bus for providing safety to women. These 13,000 marshals will also help sick people and deal with any other emergency situations. Delhi is the only state where marshals are being deployed for the safety of people,” Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said here on Monday. Addressing newly recruited bus marshals at the Tyagraj Stadium, Kejriwal said he was assigning them with duty to ensure safe ride for women in buses. Make them comfortable in buses, he told marshals. The announcement has come a day before the rollout of the scheme to provide free ride to women in DTC and cluster buses. The move would help achieve government commitment towards boosting security of women in Delhi, he added. Yes Bank posts staggering Q3 standalone net loss of Rs 18,560 cr

Mumbai, Financially troubled Yes Bank on Saturday reported a standalone net loss of Rs 18,560.31 crore for the third quarter of the financial year 2019-20. This is amongst the biggest losses reported by the India Inc. At present, the private lender is under a moratorium and is controlled by the office of the administrator appointed by the RBI. The bank had reported a net profit of Rs 1,001.85 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Besides, the bank’s total income fell to Rs 6,268.50 crore from Rs 8,849.81 crore earned during the October-December quarter of the previous fiscal. On consolidated basis, Yes Bank reported a net loss of Rs 18,564.24 crore for the December quarter from a net profit of Rs 1,000.57 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. The independent auditor’s review report on the consolidated results pointed out that there is a “material uncertainty related to going concern” of the bank. “The said assumption of going concern is dependent upon the degree of success of the final reconstruction scheme, the quantum of capital infused into the bank and the bank’s ability to stabalise its deposit balances post withdrawal of the moratorium by the RBI. Our conclusion is not modified in respect of this matter,” the auditor said...

Trust to open bank accounts, seek donations for Ayodhya mosque

The trust will also set up a website with an inbuilt gateway to receive donations online. “The Trust has decided to open accounts in two private sector banks for receiving donations. Both will be current accounts. Complying with the Supreme Court’s verdict, the Trust will construct a mosque, a hospital, community kitchen, and a library on the 5-acre land allotted to the Waqf Board at Dhannipur village in Ayodhya district,” said Trust Secretary Athar Hussain. A financial officer too has been appointed for audit and keep the records of funds received, he said. “… even non-Muslims are welcome to donate. Three lawyers quit as Andhra government pleaders

Amaravati, (Samajweekly) Three lawyers resigned as Andhra Pradesh government pleaders in the state High Court on Thursday and their replacements were also announced. Penumaka Venkat Rao, Gaddam Satish Babu and Habeen Sheik submitted their resignations. It was not clear if they resigned on their own or the government asked them to put in their papers. Their resignations came in the wake of a series of setbacks faced by the Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy state government in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. There has been criticism of the legal team of the government for failing to effectively defend the government’s action on various issues. Meanwhile, the government appointed Sumathi, Vaddiboyana Sujatha and Kiran Tirumalasetti as the new government pleaders in the high court. According to a Government Order, they were appointed in consultation with the Advocate General. ..
