Bhopal, (Samajweekly) Neemuch, a town from Green Zone in west Madhya Pradesh reported four coronavirus cases to add to the health authorities’ woes on Wednesday as the state records 89 fresh corona cases in 24 hours taking the total tally to 3,138. In the last 24 hours, nine people have died of coronavirus taking the death toll to 185, a health official said. Four deaths were reported in Bhopal, two in Indore and one each in Khandwa, Mandsaur and Burhanpur, official said. Of total deaths due to the pandemic in the state, Indore, the worst-affected district, accounts for 81. It has also 1,681 confirmed cases with 26 new COVID-19 positive persons found since last night. Since Tuesday night, 34 new patients were detected in Bhopal, followed by four each in Mandsaur, Dewas, Ratlam and Neemuch, three each in Jabalpur and Burhanpur, two in Gwalior and one each in Khandwa , Dhar, Agar Malwa, Shajapur and Shivpuri. Bhopal now has 605 cases, Ujjain 184, Jabalpur 109, Khargone 79, Dhar 76, Raisen 63 and Khandwa 50. Overall, COVID-19 cases have been reported from 35 districts with Neemuch for the first time reporting four virus confirmed cases. While 753 patients were discharged on Sunday, taking the total number of discharged patients to 40,365. Gujarat witnessed over 23,000 positive cases detected in the twenty six days of July, almost each day with a new record. On Sunday, the state saw 1,110 positive cases, the highest daily spike on a single day in four months, from 21,708 tests during the past 24 hours, the highest total tests carried out on a single day so far. Surat, the new hotspot is also witnessing each day with a higher count, registering nearly 27 per cent of Sunday’s positive cases. The diamond city recorded 299 cases on Sunday, while Ahmedabad saw 163 cases. New Delhi, (Samajweekly) India’s novel Coronavirus tally crossed the 23-lakh mark on Wednesday with detection of 60,963 new cases in the last 24 hours, while 834 more fatalities took the death toll to 46,091, the Health Ministry said. Out of the total 2,329,638 cases, recoveries surged to 1,639,599 as a record 56,110 more patients recovered during the period. The recovery rate is nearly 70 per cent now. The active cases in the country currently total 6,43,948. Notably, the fatality rate, which is the proportion of people who die of the disease among individuals diagnosed, has dropped to about two per cent, the Ministry said. The country had touched the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and added more than 3,00,000 cases in less than five days. The silver lining, however, is that the gap between recoveries and active cases is growing every day. Currently, recoveries are 10 lakh more than the active cases. As many as 7,33,449 samples were tested on Tuesday, taking the total to 2,60,15,297 samples till date, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research. Maharashtra remained the worst-hit state with a total of 5,24,513 cases and 18,050 deaths, followed by Tamil Nadu with 302,815 cases and 5041 deaths. The southern state is followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Chief Ministers and representatives of 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh for a review meeting.
