Islamabad, Ahead of a verdict in the foreign funding case against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan’s ruling party has raised questions about impartiality of Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd.) Sardar Muhammad Raza. Raza is likely to issue a verdict in the foreign funding case before his retirement on December 6. She wondered why applications by the PTI against the PML-N and PPP were not being entertained...

Berlin, (Samajweekly) German Chancellor Angela Merkel will not attend the G7 summit in Washington due to the coronavirus pandemic, state media reported Saturday, citing government spokesperson Steffen Seibert. US President Donald Trump said on May 20 that he was aiming for a real G7 summit in Washington in late June as a sign of normalization, reports Xinhua news agency. The summit was originally scheduled for June 10-12 at the presidential retreat of Camp David, Maryland. In March, however, the US government cancelled the arrangement because of the pandemic and scheduled a video conference instead. Merkel had initially left open whether she would accept Trump’s invitation to participate in a video conference. In whatever form this meeting takes place, “whether as a video conference or otherwise, I will definitely fight for multilateralism. That is very clear, both in the G7 and the G20”, the Chancellor said on May 20. Camp David is the country retreat for the US President, some 68 miles from Washington D.C...

Out of the total 2,329,638 cases, recoveries surged to 1,639,599 as a record 56,110 more patients recovered during the period. The recovery rate is nearly 70 per cent now. The active cases in the country currently total 6,43,948. Notably, the fatality rate, which is the proportion of people who die of the disease among individuals diagnosed, has dropped to about two per cent, the Ministry said. The country had touched the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and added more than 3,00,000 cases in less than five days.
