250 lawyers booked over Lahore hospital attack

Lahore, The police has registered two cases against 250 lawyers under various criminal charges for allegedly attacking the Pakistan Institute of Cardiology (PIC) and ransacking the property in Lahore. One FIR was registered on Thursday against 200-250 unidentified lawyers on the complaint of an official of the hospital, while another was registered on the complaint of police in which 15 lawyers were nominated, reports Geo News. Lahore remained under the grip of fear and chaos as angry lawyers attacked the PIC, leaving three patients dead as riots and vandalism began in and outside the facility on Wednesday. Punjab Health Minister Yasmeen Rashid later told the media that the casualties took place after doctors were unable to provide the patients timely treatment during their bid to avert the assault. A group of more than 200 lawyers, who had ongoing issues with the doctors of the PIC, stormed the hospital, vandalised property and damaged dozens of vehicles of visitors. New Delhi, (Samajweekly) After Congress chief Sonia Gandhi questioned the PM Cares fund and said it should be utilised for welfare of the migrants, the Congress has stepped up its attack, with senior party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Wednesday saying that the fund, which is the PMO’s pet project, should be made “transparent”. He alleged that a “humongous” amount of money has been taken through donations and “Ceaser’s wife cannot be above suspicion”. Singhvi tweeted: “It’s been over a week asking PMO India Narendra Modi and HMO India, the account of the humongous amount of money taken as donations by PM Cares but to no avail. Ceaser’s wife can’t be above suspicion and thus, PM Cares, a pet PMO project has to be transparent.” “Government can spend nearly Rs 100 crores on transport and food, etc. for just one public programme in Gujarat, when the Rail Ministry has the largesse to donate Rs 151 crores to the PM’s corona fund, then why can’t these essential members of our nation’s fabric be given a fraction of the same courtesy, especially free rail travel, at this hour of acute distress?” On May 4, Sonia Gandhi had said in a statement that the party will bear the cost of the travel of the migrants after it came to light on social media that migrants were charged for railway tickets to ferry them across the country to their respective home states. Cong to form 3-member panel to hear Sachin Pilot’s grievances

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) The Congress will constitute a three-member committee to look after the grievances of sulking Congress leader Sachin Pilot, who met Rahul Gandhi on Monday. The party said that the two leaders held a frank, open and conclusive discussion. In a statement, party General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal said, “Congress President Sonia Gandhi has decided that the AICC will constitute a three-member committee to address the issues raised by Sachin Pilot, the aggrieved MLA, and arrive at an appropriate resolution thereof.” “Sachin Pilot has met former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and expressed his grievances in detail. They have had a frank, open and conclusive discussion. Sachin Pilot has committed to working in the interest of the Congress party and the Congress government in Rajasthan,” said the statement. The Congress had sacked Pilot as Deputy Chief Minister and Rajasthan Congress President. So far, Gehlot has stayed put as the Chief Minister amid claims and counter-claims on attempts to poach MLAs. New Delhi, The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police has registered a case against former Union minister and Congress leader Jagdish Tytler and his wife for alleged cheating and criminal breach of trust. Police said the complainant stated that Tytler and 10 other persons had illegally usurped two plots at Delhi’s Karol Bagh area. Additional Commissioner of Delhi Police O.P. Mishra confirmed about the registration of FIR against Tytler and his wife Jennifer Tytler and others in a land grabbing case, to IANS. He said, “FIR no. 0124 was registered this year on July 9. Investigation is going on. We cannot draw any conclusion at this stage just on the basis of the FIR.” The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) registered the FIR on the direction of Patiala House court. The complainant Vijay Sekhari said, “When EOW did not file the FIR even after several complaints, I had to knock at the doors of the court. Then, the EOW officials told the court that the samples of the signatures of the accused have been sent for verification. But the court, after taking note of the facts of the case, asked the EOW to register a case.”..

Jodhpur witnesses repeat of George Floyd incident, with a twist

Jaipur, (Samajweekly) A video has gone viral on social media showing what could be called Jodhpur’s George Floyd moment with a twist, showing cops throwing a person on the ground and pressing his neck with their knees for roaming around without a mask. However, unlike the unfortunate incident in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the cops in Jodhpur reportedly acted after the person, said to be mentally challenged, turned violent after being confronted by the police. George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died after being arrested by the police outside a shop in Minneapolis in the US on May 25. Footage showed a white officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Floyd’s neck for several minutes while he was pinned to the floor. He was pronounced dead later in the hospital, triggering widespread protests across the US. However, in the Jodhpur incident, the man, identifed as Mukesh Kumar Prajapat, did not die but instead started fighting with the policemen. Jodhpur police officers confirmed that the video was shot in the city on Thursday after the police wanted to issue a challan against the man for roaming on the streets without wearing a mask before he started manhandling the police. The video shows a cop pressing his neck with his knee while two other cops held the young man’s legs. A huge crowd gathered when the scuffle broke out. Meanwhile, the SHO of Dev Nagar police station, Somkaran, said that the police were issuing a challan to Prajapat when he attacked them and tore their uniform. An FIR has been lodged against Prajapat on a complaint lodged by the Pratap Nagar police station. He will be produced in the court later in the day. Prajapat is said to be mentally challenged and had damaged his father’s eye earlier for which a case was registered against him, the poice said.
