Karnataka registers highest single day Covid tally

Bengaluru, (Samajweekly) Karnataka has registered its highest single day number of coronavirus infections, at 8,642, taking the state’s tally to 2.49 lakh, even as 7,201 more patients recovered, a state health official said on Wednesday. “Today, 8,642 new positive cases were reported and 7,201 people have been discharged,” said Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey. Bengaluru Urban continued to account for the highest number of cases (2,804), resulting in the city tally rising to 96,910, out of which 33,280 cases are active. Shivamogga accounted for 915 infections, followed by Mysuru (562), Ballari (537), Belagavi (379), Udupi (375), Dharwad (253), Dakshina Kannada (234) and Davangere (228). Meanwhile, 126 more patients succumbed to the virus, taking the state’s toll to 4,327. Of the state’s 2.49 lakh cases, 81,097 are active including 704 in ICU, while with the new recoveries, the number of people cured has risen to 1.64 lakh. On Wednesday, Pandey inaugurated a state level orientation programme aimed at negating stigma and discrimination against coronavirus patients. Guests at weddings, events limited to 50 in K’taka: Official

Bengaluru, (Samajweekly) Guests and visitors at weddings and events have been restricted to 50 in Karnataka as part of partial easing of lockdown, an official said on Friday. “The marriage event shall allow a maximum number of guests of not more than 50,” ordered state Health and Family Welfare Services Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey in his advisory. All weddings and events in Karnataka must obtain prior permission, including travel passes from local authorities. Government will also identify a nodal person to oversee the arrangements and coordination at venues. “The event shall be conducted in a suitable public place with good natural ventilation, no air condition. Persons from containment zone shall not be allowed to attend the event,” he said. People older than 65 years age, pregnant women and children below 10 are also not permitted at attend events. Thermal screening of all visitors and hand sanitisers must be made available at the venues. “Anyone found having fever, cold, cough, difficulty in breathing shall not be permitted to attend the event and immediately referred to seek medical advice,” said Pandey. Wearing a face mask and maintaining physical distancing must be adhered to while consuming liquor, betel leaves, tobacco, spitting and other prohibited activities are banned. Bengaluru, (Samajweekly) Karnataka’s coronavirus toll crossed the 4,000 mark to reach 4,062 as 115 more patients succumbed to the virus, while 6,317 new infections took its tally to 2.33 lakh, an official said on Monday. Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey also said that 7,071 people have been discharged after treatment, taking the number of recoveries to 1.48 lakh. Of the total cases, 80,643 are active and 695 patients are in ICU. The state’s death toll is led by Bengaluru, with 1,483 fatalities, with Mysuru a distant second at with 309. Bengaluru Urban continues to be the ground zero of the pandemic in the state, registering 2,053 more cases, raising the city’s tally to 91,864, out of which 34,408 are active.
