New Delhi, (Samajweekly) Congress leader and former Maharaja of Kashmir, Karan Singh, has slammed the government for mishandling the India-Nepal ties over Nepal passing a resolution in its House of Representatives to adopt a new map which includes Indian territory.
Karan Singh termed the fiasco as “Prima facie this appears to be a serious diplomatic lapse, the consequences of which are before us”.
Karan Singh said that the matter was raised in November last year but “surprisingly it was not taken seriously, ideally the Nepal government should have been engaged through Foreign Secretary or Foreign Minister level, and if needed the Prime Minister should have pitched in to resolve the deadlock”.
The Congress leader also criticised Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli for the “irreversible confrontational posture “with its relationship with India.
Karan Singh said that he has been associated with Nepal politically and personally for several decades and he has deep regrets for what Prime Minister Oli has done with regards to ties with India.
Nepal’s House of Representatives on June 13 unanimously adopted the Constitution Amendment Bill, paving the way for accommodating the updated political-administrative map in the national emblem which includes Indian areas of Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura.
Nepal Foreign Minister, Pradeep Gyawali, said in a tweet, “The House of Representatives unanimously adopted the Constitution Amendment Bill, paving the way for accommodating the updated political-administrative map in the national emblem.”..
New Delhi, (Samajweekly) A week after a raging cyclone wreaked havoc in West Bengal, the country is now bracing to face another cyclone which is headed towards the coastline of Maharashtra and Gujarat.
“Nisarga” currently lies as a depression 490 km from Mumbai, 280 km from Goa’s capital city and 710 km from Surat district in Gujarat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the depression intensifed into a deep depression at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
It is now slated to further turn into a cyclonic storm in 12 hours and then into a severe cyclonic storm in subsequent 12 hours.
Low pressure, depression and deep depression are the first three levels used by the IMD to classify cyclones based on their intensity.
It is likely to cross north Maharashtra and south Gujarat coasts between Harihareshwar town in Raigad district and Daman as a severe cyclonic storm on Wednesday.
IMD’s Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has said that the severe cyclonic storm will have a wind speed of 90-105 kmph when it crosses the coast on June 3.
According to Roxy Mathew Koll, a climate scientist at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, it will be the first-ever cyclone in recorded history to hit the Maharashtra coast in June.
Whereas, as per another researcher at the same institute, ‘Nisarga’ will be only the second cyclone in recorded history that will be hitting the Maharashtra coast in the pre-monsoon season i.e. April-June.
“The one and only cyclone in the past that hit Maharashtra coast in the pre-monsoon season was May 1961 cyclone,” Vineet Kumar said...
Mumbai, The road crossing the Patna Golf Club and Patna Public Service Commission and leading to Bihar Human Rights Commission has become the latest testament that all is not well between Nitish Kumar and the BJP. The calm on the surface is deceiving.
The road that is even today called Bailey Road, in spite of being earlier renamed Jawaharlal Nehru Marg has once again being re-christened. Guess against whose name? Its renamed after India’s first Prime Minister, once again to call it “Nehru Path”. Nehru has been central to Congress ethos and the biggest punching bag for the BJP. Even recently, Amit Shah blamed the existence of Article 370 on Pandit Nehru. This change of name of a road is anything but a regular administrative work and has deep seeded political messaging by Nitish Kumar for its ally – the BJP, in the state.
The goal to rename a road after Nehru that was already named after Nehru was two-fold- to send feelers to Congress and more importantly to warn BJP.
This September, Kumar accepted that there is a problem in the alliance by unilaterally saying that there isn’t any. He told party workers, “There are many who think there is ghachpach (something problematic) in our alliance. It is not so.”..
