New Delhi, (Samajweekly) After Congress chief Sonia Gandhi questioned the PM Cares fund and said it should be utilised for welfare of the migrants, the Congress has stepped up its attack, with senior party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Wednesday saying that the fund, which is the PMO’s pet project, should be made “transparent”. He alleged that a “humongous” amount of money has been taken through donations and “Ceaser’s wife cannot be above suspicion”. Singhvi tweeted: “It’s been over a week asking PMO India Narendra Modi and HMO India, the account of the humongous amount of money taken as donations by PM Cares but to no avail. Ceaser’s wife can’t be above suspicion and thus, PM Cares, a pet PMO project has to be transparent.” “Government can spend nearly Rs 100 crores on transport and food, etc. for just one public programme in Gujarat, when the Rail Ministry has the largesse to donate Rs 151 crores to the PM’s corona fund, then why can’t these essential members of our nation’s fabric be given a fraction of the same courtesy, especially free rail travel, at this hour of acute distress?” On May 4, Sonia Gandhi had said in a statement that the party will bear the cost of the travel of the migrants after it came to light on social media that migrants were charged for railway tickets to ferry them across the country to their respective home states. She had said, “I hoped that thousands of crores which came in the name of charity will be used for nation builders and they will be provided free travel, but I am pained this has not been done.”..

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) The Congress will constitute a three-member committee to look after the grievances of sulking Congress leader Sachin Pilot, who met Rahul Gandhi on Monday. The party said that the two leaders held a frank, open and conclusive discussion. In a statement, party General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal said, “Congress President Sonia Gandhi has decided that the AICC will constitute a three-member committee to address the issues raised by Sachin Pilot, the aggrieved MLA, and arrive at an appropriate resolution thereof.” “Sachin Pilot has met former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and expressed his grievances in detail. They have had a frank, open and conclusive discussion. Sachin Pilot has committed to working in the interest of the Congress party and the Congress government in Rajasthan,” said the statement. The Congress had sacked Pilot as Deputy Chief Minister and Rajasthan Congress President. So far, Gehlot has stayed put as the Chief Minister amid claims and counter-claims on attempts to poach MLAs. The development comes after Rahul Gandhi met Sachin Pilot on Monday. The duo had a meeting in presence of Priyanka Gandhi and then both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi drove from Rahul Gandhi’s residence to 10 Janpath, where all the three, including Sonia Gandhi, discussed the issue. Sources said that Congress has assured that Pilot’s grievances will be addressed regarding Ashok Gehlot and Rajasthan politics. However, the party claims that previous status will be restored and his concerns will be sorted out...

New Delhi,(Samajweekly) Indicating an end to the rebellion in the Congress’ Rajasthan unit, a meeting took place between Sachin Pilot and his loyalists and the three-member panel formed by interim party chief Sonia Gandhi to look into their grievances, at the war room in the Congress headquarters here on Monday evening. The three-member panel comprises senior party leaders Ahmed Patel, Priyanka Gandhi and K.C. Venugopal. Following the meeting, Pilot stressed that his fight was ideological and not personal. “Since the past few days, some MLAs were in Delhi, there were some issues of the state which we wanted to highlight and I have done that by raising the issues clearly. I have been saying since the beginning that all these things were based on principles. I always thought these things are essential to be raised in the party’s interest,” he told mediapersons. Pilot also said that he believed that all these issues will be resolved after Sonia Gandhi heard all their concerns and the governance issues that they had raised. He also welcomed the formation of the three-member committee. “I heard a lot of things. I was surprised by a few things that were said. I think we should always maintain restraint and humility. We had formed a government in Rajasthan after five years of hard work,” he said. Pilot also said that he didn’t want to raise the issues discussed in front of the media...

Jaipur, (Samajweekly) Rajasthan’s former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot visited Tonk, his assembly constituency, on Wednesday to a spirited welcome by people at various places, and said this had left him “humbled”. Addressing a public hearing in Tonk, Pilot said: “I am not a part of the (Ashok Gehlot) government any more. Neither am I a Deputy Chief Minister nor am I the state (Congress) President. Despite this, I am humbled to see the enthusiasm of people. We shall work to resolve all issues soon as our government has three more years to work. I am grateful to people for a rousing welcome.” After the programme, Pilot went to the district Collectorate where he attended a meeting with district officials and people’s representatives. He gave a patient hearing to people’s problems and also collected officials’ feedback on different issues, including the Covid-19 pandemic. Speaking to the media in Jaipur before leaving for Tonk by road, he thanked interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi for taking quick action after hearing his grievances, and said that everything now will be resolved by the three-member committee. “Now, a three-member committee has been formed which will discuss and decide on ways to work in coordination for government and organisation. I also met Ajay Maken, the new state in charge, recently in Delhi and discussed the state’s present situation. Now, the committee shall perform its duties. “Whatever we want to communicate further shall be forwarded via the committee,” he added. The committee comprises party General Secretaries Priyanka Gandhi and K.C. Venugopal and party Treasurer Ahmed Patel...

The letter of Sonia Gandhi to the people who wrote to her demanding a change in the leadership, said that she wanted to be relieved. Sonia Gandhi’s letter was read by party General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal at the meeting of the highest decision making body of the Congress. Sonia Gandhi also offered to quit and said the process should be initiated to elect a new Congress President. She has referred to a letter written to her by senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad. However, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while speaking at the meeting asked her to continue as party Chief, party sources said. During the CWC meeting, senior Congress leader A.K. Antony questioned the letter written by over 100 party leaders urging for sweeping reforms, and ‘a full-time, visible leadership. With many Congress leaders openly demanding Rahul Gandhi to be brought back as the party chief without any further delay, the party made it clear that the CWC meeting will discuss the issue. The meeting comes weeks after the Congress saw a stormy meeting of its Rajya Sabha MPs wherein certain leaders sought introspection on the 2019 poll debacle. Thereafter, a bunch of leaders wrote the letter to Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi on the issue of leadership change and elections in the CWC...

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) The Congress Working Committee (CWC) met here on Monday amid a huge controversy over a letter by more than a score of key party leaders urging for sweeping reforms, and ‘a full-time, visible leadership’, even as chorus to bring back Rahul Gandhi as chief has gained momentum in some quarters. Party workers are expecting imminent change in leadership at this juncture, and tweets and letters flying all over the place since last evening have showed a bend towards Rahul Gandhi to be brought back to the hot seat. Many Congress leaders have openly demanded to bring back Rahul Gandhi as the party President without any further delay. The party though said only the CWC, which is the highest decision-making body in the Congress, will discuss and decide on the issue. The CWC meeting comes weeks after the Congress saw a stormy meeting of its Rajya Sabha MPs wherein certain leaders sought introspection on the 2019 poll debacle. Thereafter, a bunch of leaders wrote the letter to Congress interim chief on the issue of leadership change and elections in the CWC. Sacked Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha earlier said that 100 party leaders have written the letter to Sonia Gandhi for making “sweeping changes” in the party. This has, however, been denied by the Congress and its chief spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala. Sources said that the letter, about which IANS had reported on July 29, said: “There should be full-time party leadership which should be effective and active in the field. It should work for the revival of the Congress, elections in the CWC and urgent establishment of a suitable mechanism.” The letter has been signed by a number of senior leaders, including former Chief Ministers, from the party...
